i am 22 and have the collections agency after me for like 1 grand how does this affect my credit like will i be able to get a cell phone contract?

Yes you may still be able to get a cellphone contract. Most cellphone companies will require a $300 deposit and signage of a 2-year contract, this is fully refundable after 1-year of continued service. I believe Nextel would be the only company to refuse due to credit, but I'm not 100% sure. I recommend you go by the office and give it a try and have the $300 ready and available.

This will cause you to have a poor credit record, and make it harder for you to get any sort of loan for years. You either won't get a loan for a car, for example, or you'll have to pay a higher interest rate because you're a poor risk. So that means you can't get as good a car - you'll have to settle for an older cheaper one, which will more likely have problems. The same thing goes for a credit card, or a cell phone.

The best thing to do is to take responsibility and pay the debt.

No on the cell phone-you could go prepaid. Any collections show up on your credit report.
