Just been out for an anniversary meal. Food great, service going well until dessert. From when we finished main course, it was 25 mins until order for dessert taken, and another 25 minutes until it arrived - ie 50 mins total between courses. Complained to management but they said they deliberately 'slowed things down' after the main course (although apparently not at other tables...). Was this service unreasonable...?

Apps 15min
then entrees 20min
dessert menus on table with in 5min of finishing
dessert served within 10min

If you don't order an app then you can expect your entrees in about 20-30 min depending on how busy the place is... entrees take longer to cook and by skipping the apps, you don't automatically go in front of everyone else that did have apps and is now waiting for their main course.

20 minutes is the usual. I think they either got backed up or forgot to put in your dessert order. Management was just doing the excuse dance, something wasn't right. I might even write a letter to the owner. I had something like this happen once and for my letter, I got an apology and a two for one coupon for another dinner.

As a chef and a restaurateur i would find that kind of service unacceptable the waitress/waiter should of said just too let her/him know when you were ready too order your desserts if not 15 minutes between courses is the accepted length of time.

I think timing is a personal choice, I love to spend hours over food. In fact when we were out for dinner on Monday we were at the tanle from 6.30-10.30 and didn't even have a dessert!!!

But I also understand that some people like their food quicker.

I don't think we make it easy for them sometimes but then perhaps they shoudl ask us.

yes it was unreasonable they should be asking if you are finished and if you would like anything else the waiter, es
for your table should be very atentive to your needs if this happens again tell them you have a appointment to keep and you are not happy with paying the full price as this is like an injurance test ps dont have that other drink unless it is free.

Be aware that if you visit a restaurant as part of a large party, most r's will DELIBERATELY slow the service down so you consume more alcohol, which is where they make most of their profit.

I don't like to wait too long between courses in restaurants & I think 50mins between courses is far too long and not acceptable.
I was in the caribbean years ago and waited absolute ages just to get the menu, but apparently thats down to their laid back lifestyle!

Would they be happy if you sat at their table for fifty minutes before paying the bill? I don't think so, the service was crap they were just trying to cover for themselves.
