First you have to ask the school to take your child off the register in accordance with Education(Pupil Registration) Regulation8 (1)(d) 2006 as the are now receiving education otherwise than at school. The school will then inform your LEA. They will contact you and ask if they can visit. At this point you may refuse but it is considered best to co-operate with them. They will need to know how you intend to educate your child. There are many ways to do this ranging from on-line national curriculum through to autonomous learning (where you follow your child's int rests and help them to discover more about it). Although this might sound a bit daunting there are organisations that can help such as education otherwise and HEAS both have web sites. There might even be a home ed community in your area that can help. A good book to read is Free Range Education (FRED) this gives a lot of personal accounts from both children and adults who are involved in home ed. It also has a very good legal chapter on dealing with LEAs and how to prove you are providing a suitable education for your children. Hope this helps
