Last week my wife under instruction (as she is on a provisonal licence) scuffed a bumper of a parked car when practicing a manouver. We waited until the driver came back and showed her the 2 small 4-5 inch scratces on her bumper. The occupents of the car did not notice as it was so slow! We have received a letter from her Insurance company. Our insurance policy has a massive excess due to a) her licence and b) a voulentry XS to reduce the premiums. Therefore £500 xs... plus we will loose 2 years no claims etc etc. These scratches could cost us loads of dosh!

Therefore, can i contact her insurance and them to repair the damage and send me the bill direct, as it will work out cheaper this way. I have already told my insurance company, but i want to avoid using them to pay the bill..

Statistics: The only science that enables different experts using the same figures to draw different conclusions.

The insurance company used your "statistic" of your accedent.

The best way deal with this in the future is to ask the other driver to settle the accident without involving either of your insurance companies (I would think they wouldn't like a premium hike either) In america, that is not illegal. Not reporting the accident to the police is. But once the insurance company gets hold of it, you can kiss your hard earned money good bye!

I actually work for a big motor insurance company first of all call your insurance company to report it but report the incident for information purposes only (this basically means you are just letting them know and dont want t'hem to deal with anything).

However if your insurance have already started taking steps then call them and ask them to write to you when they have settled the 'claim and as long as you send them the money it cost it will not go on as a claim on your policy.

I assume the letter from her insurance company is asking you for your insurance details so Id call your insurance company asap and say you want it for info purposes only.
Hope this helps'

You can ask either the owner to get it repaired and send you the bill or their insurance company.
As you have told your insurance company, even if it isn't a claim, they will still treat it as an accident and put your insurance up.
My mate got stung like that, local yobs were slashing tyres so he reported it to the police, they said he'd have to tell his insurance company(you dont)and even though he didn't claim they put his insurance up and when he changed companies they told his new insurance company he'd lost his full no claims!
Took a lot of arguments and threatening to sue before it was put right.

Yes. You can pay the bill directly. But, if your insurance company has already opened a claim in regards to the incident, you may still have a problem with a reported claim situation. Good luck.

That'll teach you to be a good citizen, won't it Rob? I have seen dozens of people damage vehicles whilst getting out of a tight spot and drive off. A geezer drove into my parked car and attempted to drive off. There was a very heated argument and I had to threaten him with the police and then immigration and he took off! I still have that dent in my door. Another person slammed their trolley into the front of my car and took off. I have a nice dent on the front of my bonnet! May I suggest in future Rob that short of knocking a human being down, you either drive off, sort out any damage between yourselves or stop your wife from driving. And make the blind cow pay for your excess! That'll teach her. Most women should never be behind the wheel of car though there are one or two exceptions!

Here in the People's Republic of America you would still be able to, but in a totalitarian regime like Great Britain, I'm not sure that would be possible.

I am no expert but I would think that so long as you pay for her car to be repaired then it would be ok to do it through her ins. co. and save the claim on yours. You could always give her ins , a ring and ask them.
