Topez - I don't have a problem with it,I am one of the people that need to work O/t in order to make ends meet.
Some people however do not require the money but yet still continue to work all the hours under the sun.

A bit of both.
My OH takes any overtime going - we don't need the money but it is nice and it helps him get noticed as a good worker.
Some people work alot as they don't have anyone at home, it stops them feeling lonely.
My Dad was a workaholic, overtime was a compulsion for him - but that can be overcome.

Too much work to get done in 40 hours, company won't hire more staff. For 8 years I worked 15-20 hours of overtime per week. When I was finally burned out and gave notice they decided to hire an extra person.

probably a genuine need for money, or they have noone to go home to and work is the only other outlet. My husband before we met, worked serious hours, someitmes as many as 80 a week, he didn't party, he didn't like to do all the things his friends did, so he worked and saved money. We are now financially stable because of it, and now he just works the minimum that he has to since he has a family now.

Do you have kids, a family, a house? Do you pay heat bills, medical and property taxes? For most people it is a genuine need. I have to work about 15-20 hour OT a week. My property taxes and heat bills go up double digits, my income does not.

And the word is compulsion- did I forget school taxes?

Maybe for them things at work are better than things at home
Personally I love being with my family so much that I hardly ever do overtime even if I really could do with the money

some people like the money, some need the money, some don't have a life outside of work. Some have a life outside of work but don't like it. I know a guy that would rather work that be at home with if wife.

It's called doing what you got to do. Perhaps their jobs require it or even their job allows them to work overtime if they want to. People are just trying to make ends meet or to have extra money to do extra things.

Tell me - why do you have a problem with it - are you helping them out with their monthly bills?? Take care of your own business.

Overtime is supposedly "included" in my salary. When I mention to my boss that hours are getting excessive, I just get told "well we all have to work hard".

However, I think 45-50 hours week in and week out is getting a bit stupid...

I work overtime every day for free.
Call me a masochist.

But I get 2 rises a year + advantages + job satisfaction.

Where I work, this is the busy season, and over time is scheduled and mandatory, although we do enjoy getting a bigger paycheck as Christmas approaches.
