Several months back, I decided to shave down low and soon after had bumps appear. I've had razor burn before, so it's not that. The bumps are small, don't itch or cause pain. They're pretty much the color of my skin, some darker than others. I've had a doctor give me Bactroben Cream as he assumed the problem was just folliculitis, but the cream had no effect. This whole thing is just annoying as nothing seems to work. Anyone have any ideas or had similar after-effects from shaving the genital area?

Sounds to me like you might have some ingrown hairs. My wife and I both shave ( It makes the sex that much more sensual) and it seems to be a common problem among some people that shave. I don't think there is anything that you can really do about it. I would suggest using good shaving cream. Some of them even say that they prevent ingrown hairs also you need to use a sharp razor dull ones just make the problem worse. Also I would never recommend using aftershave down there that would would be like pouring rubbing alcohol into an open cut.

i've been shaved downthere for several years now. when i first started shaving my genitals i experienced the razor burn and bumps you mention in your question. here are some helpful suggestions that might do the trick for you.
1. lathered the genital area with plenty of soapy water prior to shaving. let the lather stay on for about 5 minutes to assure that the area is moistured and ready for shaving. this procedure causes the hair folicles to open up for easier shaving.
2. use an expensive (Macy's, Penney's, etc.) brand of shaving cream that stipulate that they serve to prevent razor bush, rash, and bumps. the various shaving creams available are quite on the high priced side.
3. lather the genital area with a modest amount of shaving cream.
shave, using one stroke going downward and one stroke going upward. any further shaving of that particular area can still lead to irritation.
4. there's a product on the market called CLEANCUT. it's a battery operated shaver. i suggest you purchase one and use it every other time you shave. (razor, shaver....) CLEANCUT costs about $50 but is well worth the investment. this is the BEST powered shaver i've every used. first you modestly sprinkle powder over the areas to be shaved. this helps the CLEANCUT to glide across the areas. the result will be a close, smooth, clean-cut look.
both my wife and i are shaved and use the razor/shaver routine. it really DOES help with the problems you are encountering.
you can purchase the CLEANCUT at www.cleancut.com.
have fun being bald. best of luck.

might be ingrown hairs or just the way your body reacted to being shaved. Nothing to be worried about.
