No silver dollars were made in 1944, so you must mean a 1944 Walking Liberty Half Dollar. Well, they were made at 3 mints that year. The mint mark is on the reverse bottom, left of the word half. Nothing there, it was minted in Philadelphia ( 28,206,000 mintage). If there is a D there it was minted in Denver ( 9,769,000 mintage). If an S then it was minted in San Francisco (8,904,000 minted). Now to grade it,To be a good -it must have full rims and the motto "In God We Trust" must be readable. To be a very good- motto is distinct and about half of skirt lines at left are clear. Fine- all skirt lines evident but worn in spots, detail in sandal below motto clear. Very fine - skirt lines Sharp including leg area, little wear on breast and right arm. Extremely fine- all skirt lines bold. It could grade better, but would have to have no wear at all, or very little. Now for the bad news they sell for $7.50 in very good to $9.00 in Extra fine. These are retails so expect to get at least 40% less.

ive got one, and theyre very rare in deed.anywhere from 50-75 is a good range right now, though i suggest u hold on to it for a couple more years. i have a hunch (just one) that after 12/21/12 passes over, anything from the past will increase dramatically. but you should def. hold on to it for a bit more... thats what im doing for sure :) cheers :D
