Yea i've been thinking about supercharging my car (2005 pontiac gto) and was wondering if i would have to make a lot of modifications to it to install it? What kind of superchargers are good or are all of them the same?

alright my kind of question the best part about ur car is fuel injection easy to tune. as far as chargers go u have three options for forced induction a twin screw or roots style blower like the ones u see sticking out of a hood on a hotrod dont think they make a kit for roots but eaton and ken bellle both make twin screw kits that come with new manifold blower injectors fuel pump fuel regulator programing basically everything u need dont recommend installing urself makes great performance for everyday driving though now if u want to get serious these other two options are alot more fun u can go with a centerfugal like procharger or vortec they both have kits ready to go or U COULD GO TURBO which im not sure if greddy or turbonectics make a kit for yet ill bet they do though but turbo and centerfugal are for serious power gains only turbo race application as they generate alot of heat all three are fun and will satisfy ur needs im sure take ur pick do ur research all of the companys i have named have web sites do a search on yahoo check em out. hope this helps have fun with ur car

There's two basic kinds of superchargers: Positive displacement and centrifugal. Positive displacement ones include the sorts sold by B&M, Eaton, and the Whipplecharger. Centrifugal superchargers include Paxton and Vortech. The positive displacement superchargers make more power at every RPM, while the centrifugal ones add most of their power at the top of the RPM range. However, centrifugal superchargers are more efficient in most cases, which can make them not as much of a threat to your engine. Your call as to which one you want - do you want to have the extra power at 2000 RPM, or are you the sort who loves winding it up to the redline?

Many supercharger companies sell their units as packages that include all the engine mods you will need, but you may want to beef up the transmission and differential too. Call the company selling the package - they'll have a list of what engine parts you need, and might even be able to tell you if the rest of the drivetrain can handle it.

You could just take a sledge hammer to the engine. It will be cheaper and the results will be pretty much the same.
There are probably about 200 things in the drive train that were designed to match the power output of that engine. All an extra 80 horses will do is to discover which one will break first.
