It couldn't hurt that you took a college course and got a good grade, but let's face it, a 1.8 sucks! What happened for four years that you did so badly?

There are some state schools that will probably let you in, but I think your chance of getting into any of the name schools is pretty dim.

OK, so go to the state school and work your butt off. In four years if you do well no one will care what you did in high school. Your high school stuff will not matter at all if you have a good college GPA. And it will show those high school teachers what they missed!

Go For it!

A good college? No you can't. You could get into a Vocational school, but they aren't any good unless you want to work a blue collar job. What you may have to do is enroll into a community college (talk to your H.S. guidance counselor about it if they will talk to a graduated student) and take classes for 1 to 2 years then transfer to the college you have been looking at. This won't get you into an Ivy League, but it doesn't sound like you wanted that anyway..and I don't blame you. You other option..and I wuldn't recommend it is to wait a couple years until you qualify as a "non-tradional student" then enroll..they don't care about your high school GPA. I'm 32 now and in college..it's a heck of a lot easier than high school was. It's amazing what being older did for my study habits. My college is also free because I served in the military, and on top of that I get the GI Bill every month for my living expenses..and it's tax free :) I won't twist your arm of course, but have you considered enlisting? I was in the Army and I'd say stay away from them and the Marines with all the skirmishes we have going on around the world. But the Air Force and Coast Guard give you the same college benefits..you can even take classes while you are in.

Earning an 4.0 gpa in one class let alone one semester is trivial compared to your cumulative gpa from 4 years of high school. You have shown that you are definitely capable of doing well in college level courses, but your options will be limited because of your high school marks. Your best bet is to do the best you can at a community college for a semester or two then try transferring to a better school.
