No you can't. All monkeys and apes are covered by the dangerous wild animals act and you need a licence to keep them, which is virtually impossible for private individuals.

Just to inform you. As someone else mentioned Orang utans are apes and not monkeys are are in the same group as gorillas, chimps bonobos and humans. Also, to supply Orangs for the pet trade in Southeast Asia, hunters kill the mothers and then hand over the severely traumatised infants to ignorant people as pets. Many if not most of them die without their mother and those that don't soon outgrow their adoptive families and end up back in a rescue centre which then has to try and rehabilitate them into the wild. The illegal pet trade along with habitat destruction is driving Orang utans to extinction.

If you want a mammalian pet, then choose a domestic animal which by its nature is tolerant of humans and even enjoys their company. Wild animals are not suitable and it destroys their lives.

Yes but you would need a licence. And monkeys / orangutans are NOT cuddly pets. You can get seriously ill from the bite of a monkey. If I were you I'd get a stuffed toy one and pretend!

You can not keep Orang Utans as pets in any coutry - Legally!!!

Marmosets and some tamarins can be kept as pets here in the UK. There are also a few more.

You would have to contact yuor local council first, as they will need to authorise a licence for you to be able to keep one - also check with your local vet that they will treat a primate.

Keeping monkeys is cruel, their quality of life is poor, so even if you can you shouldn't. To resolve the monkey vs ape issue it's simple, if it has a tail it's a monkey, no tail it's an ape.

An orangutan is an ape, not a monkey.

You would not be able to get a licence easily.
