any advice on how to fix it? Is it just faulty wiring? If it is, then why would hitting the CRT/LCD button fix it?

Is it under warranty? You might check with the manufacturer.
Is it anything to do with the screen saver? Or perhaps the computer is going into hibernation early?

Try depressing the function key (Fn) and the F7 key at the same time. That should brighten it. To darken it, hit Fn and F6.

When you let it sit there, the screen will get dark to like preserve energy.

have you tried out the settings on the mon button auto reset button
