I'm in college, and I recently got out of a long term relationship. I've dated about 5 guys recently, and every time I talk to my mom about it, or ask for advice, she says 'oh but they are just friends okay." Then she gets sick of talking to me about it and hangs up when I ask her about their personalities.

Recently I met a guy I really like, and we've hung out 10 hours a day for the past week. We made out and we hug. He's the funniest guy I've known. Thing is, he has Crohm's disease, and my mom says "oh that means he's going to die soon."

Then she hangs up on me when I ask her who I should choose between the 2 guys.

Why does she say "they are only friends" when they are clearly not, says "that means he's going to die soon" and then hangs up on me not wanting to talk about my relationships?

Then she tells me not to kiss so many guys, and also "it's my choice in guys." However last time I told her about one guy and she told me to stop talking to him because he sounded crazy...what is up with all this?

Should I never tell my mom about my romantic relationships? It's just I think she can give me good advice, as my dad was an abusive a**hole, so I don't want to be put in that position.

Should I not tell her anything?

Maybe she's afraid you'll blame her if she gives you too much advice on a specific guy and it turns out badly. Or maybe she's uncomfortable saying what she really thinks about the guys, and so bails out of the conversation. Or, maybe there is something going on in HER life that makes her uncomfortable talking with you about it. Don't think she doesn't care about you, but there could be other things going on with her that you don't know about....She's only human, too.

Hoping the best for you...

Don't ask your mother for any advice on your love life anymore. Your clearly making her feel uncomfortable. Your her baby and it's hard for her to know that her baby is having sex... Talk to your friends about boyfriend stuff. When your ready to settle someday, your mother will be happy to listen I'm sure....

Sounds like she is just being protective. May you should quit telling her all the details of your relationships.

You're an adult. You don't need to tell her about everything you do.
