It's an "eruption cyst" & they are common, basically a blood blister. As the tooth erupts tiny blood vessels leak & the blood catches uder the skin causing bluish/purple swelling or bruising. It can look quite dramatic & resolves as the tooth erupts. Perfectly normal.

My son just had the same thing on the top. That's her top tooth coming through creating a blood blister. You will be shocked how large the top teeth are and they killed him when they came in. They are twice the surface area than the bottom teeth, and therefore took twice as long and was twice as painful. Some remedies I used was taking a clean wet washcloth, out into a freezer safe bag and then left in the freezer for 30 minutes. He loved to chew on that. Another remedy I used was taking half of a banana wrapped in cellophane also placed in the freezer overnight. He loved to chew on this treat. I used a mesh bag eater made by munchkin so that he didn't get any huge chunks off and we didn't have to hold the cold treat.
They say if an adult had to go through this teething process that we couldn't handle the pain - it's just so bad. With that in mind - i have given my son children's Tylenol to aid with the pain.
Wow, with twins - that double the sleepless nights. I really give you credit! Good luck!

My daughters gum was purple. kinda looked like a briuse right before her tooth broke the skin. She now has four teeth and only one did that. She has had a lot of pain with her teeth too. I give her tylenol. Oragel doesn't seem to help her much. Good Luck.

she's about to pop another tooth! Rub her gum with your finger if she'll let you. give her a cold teether. The purple is just a little bleeding from where the tooth is trying to poke through. No problem.
