no.... a dog's mouth has more germs and bacteria that you would care to know. it is NOT true that their saliva is cleansing. they lick their butts!!

Dogs have clean mouths compared to cats, the teeth are far apart and food doesnt get stuck in between like a cats mouth. The saliva is running constantly however if the dog just ate something or licked something with germs, then NO, it is best to wash a scratch with warm soapy water and then put a triple anitbiotic ointment on with a bandage to protect it until healed. Most of the time, it wouldnt hurt a bit for a dog to lick a scratch.

99% of people you would ask, would say YES. it is healthy. ive had small scratches that a dog licked and it was almost healed the next day. why ? dogs mouths have a natural antibiotic / antioxidant ... and it kills most germs almost immediately. there bodies are made to produce something that eats up most germs before it can hurt them.

Organic Cleaners

all through my life ,whenever i got cut or scraped ,and there was a dog around ,i let it lick the wound ,to clean it and some how disinfect it

Dogs have a strong antibiotic in their toungue juices.
never got bad effects or infections,

also in the Mexican jungle ,when ever i took a bath in the warm river , maybe full of scratches ,i let the fish ,nibble the scabs ,dried blood etc

.some times they were too enthuisiastic and would have eaten all of me if i hadnt moved, and leaving me bleeding but clean,

but again no ill effects

It would be worse to have a human lick it. Humans have the most bacteria. Dogs are much safer.

Hope that helps.

It's not healthy to let any animal lick a wound on your leg..........four-legged or two-legged. Just watch where your dog licks itself................do you want that in your scratch???

yes. dogs always try to make anything by licking it or giving affection. but it won't hurt the scratch at all.
