I believe countries like Brunei which gives preference and priority to its citizenry are far more superior societies than those so-called 'democracies' such as the U.S.A. where corruption is rampant among its political leaders and within it government.
Look at the country of Butah, which actually has a 'Gross National Happiness' index (instead of a Gross National Product index). Perhaps these are not perfect societies, but at least their governments are attempting to be of service to the people.
The United States, on the other hand, has become entangled in a web of hatred, bigotry, avarice, selfishness,war-mongering, and corruption among its citizens and - especially - within its monopolistic political system that is driven by sheer arrogance, hubris, evil and wickedness. -RKO-

Democracy is nothing more than a beautiful concept that everyone in the world should be entitled to. However, it has one major flaw: It is the only door to capitalism.
Capitalism, and the human greed it fosters, is the terminal cancer that eventually consumes and destroys true democracy. People eventually become enraged at being raped by the rich and privileged, and rise up and revolt, and dictatorial government is the result.
The prime example of this simple fact is the wanton destruction of personal freedoms; the rape, murder, pillaging and occupation of other nations for their natural resources. This is the United States of America.
The real tragedy of all this is that despots like George W. Bush claim they are doing this to preserve democracy in the U.S. The fact is Americans lost their democracy the day he became president. There is a way to preserve personal freedoms and
democracy; it is called social democracy. Social democracy allows everyone to benefit, not just the wealthy. Social democracy is not communism.

Well, I don't see how you can have economic Freedom and physical freedom without Democracy. Both are dependant on it when you think of it.
Now, one might say that China is the exception. Well, they can do all they like to change the world view of Communism, but one has to wonder how truly free the economic system is there.
Economy is Politics.
Politics is Economy.

If you never lived in a democracy I suppose it wouldn't be all that important. However, if you have lived in a democracy and then had to live in Brunei, I'm sure you would miss democracy. Many citizens of oil-rich Arab countries get the same as Brunei.

In my eyes democracy is one of the most imortant things in the world. I believe that the king of queen of a country should remain the overseer of their realm.
In theory with democracy comes physical freedom. e.g china if you are a christian in china the only place you can leagally go is to a state organised church, if you are found to be attending unauthorised services you can be excecuted. so they do not have democratic freedom (well in theory they do) and do not have physical freedom.
What did the millions of people who have died for democracy? Would we be here today or would we all be physically free but all living in 1982? But who says that we are not free at all?

Democracy,a term not easy to understand and to explain. It has many aspects good and bad.
Bottom line is,it is good for the reasonbly enlightened society but not good for not so enlighted society.
What democracies we see today in the world are mostly politically exploited or misused by politicians. In case of autocracy there is one evil but in case of Democracy there are many more evils at work.
The best example is of my own country INDIA where votes are bought from poors by gifts like Saree or wine bottles. Those who come in power they struggle to remain in power and not to serve the nation. The other example is USA where I live.Political parties win on the strength of money and remain on power by serving only rich class(Who in turn contribute towards the expenses for election). It's a business.
So sometime-in most cases-democracy is a curse.LOOK AT IRAQ,A BEUTIFUL COUNTRY WELL KNOWN FOR ITS TRADITINS AND CULTURE HAS BEEN DESTROYED IN NAME OF DEMOCRACY.LOOK AT CHINA.SEE THEIR PROGRESS !
& UPLIFT OF POORS.
At 75 I have seen many colors of the management of countries.
I firmly believe "Only one man can change the plight of people like Mahatma Gandhi,Martin Luther King or Ban Ky (If he wishes so)

Well Blair/New Labour have systematically dissolved our rights in the name of Democracy. I'd rather live under a dictatorship I know to be pure than under that under the regime of this filthy despot.
