In case you aren't sure, body work, means fixing up the body of a car, truck, etc. And keep in mind, the looks come from both sexes. It's very unnerving! lol.

I hoenstly will never figure people out. What on earth has gender got to do with doing bodywork? I expect that's their hangup. Oh, well...You know, the best thing to do is just ignore them as best you can. Crank up the music a bit louder or something. Hey, look at it this way: you're doing something useful and highly skilful -- and they're just gawking...

I think that says it all.

Good on you and go for it!!

PS You can try humor, too. Look, here's a true story. I once knew a guy of about 55 who worked as a night desk clerk in a big city building. Pretty quiet job. So he knitted clothes for his grandchildren. He even did them on the bus to and from work every day. And he said that if anyone gave him funny looks he'd just say, "My wife hasn't got the patience so I do it," and went on counting stiches. Got a smile out of them every time! :))

Because working on vehicles is traditionally viewed as a male job/hobby. May not sound fair, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with you having that for a hobby, but it's true. As much as we claim to be a post-modern, "anything goes" society, people still hold traditional views of gender roles when it comes right down to it. So you are likely to get odd looks, but don't let it stop you! Maybe you could offer your talents as a service to others who may need bodywork done to their vehicles and don't have time to get it done. Put up a sign advertising rates. People are less likely to judge if there's something in it for them! lol Good luck.

The same way you get weird looks when you are mowing the yard, changing a tire or fishing.

Somehow our culture holds on to some preconcieved notions, one of those being that men are more likely than women to work on cars.

Don't get unnerved by it! You are helping to change those views people have!

Most people expect men to be doing bodywork...my father has been doing it my whole life. He's been doing it for 30 years and I've never seen a women doing it. All I can tell you is that people are still thinking women are domestic. I wouldn't let them bother you, keep doing what your doing. You can't let people like that bother you. Just show them that I woman can do anything a man can do, and guys this is so true. Its men who can't do what we can. lol

Society (our culture) tells us that men work with cars (or anything technical for that matter).
You can go along with society and let it shape your beliefs,
or you can enjoy what you do; do it well; and enjoy yourself.

Men tend to think they dominate that area of work

Maybe you are doing it on the street, or making too much noise, you should know why, you just pretend you don't
