can somone explain writing electron configurations?

I will give a brief possible answer. However, it is almost totally impractical in this medium to give a satisfactory answer.

I use the periodic table and memory to guide me. Here is a list of a few elements in order, and their electronic configurations.

H 1s1
He 1s2
Li 1s2 2s1
Be 1s2 2s2
B 1s2 2s2 2p1
C 1s2 2s2 2p2
N 1s2 2s2 2p3
O 1s2 2s2 2p4
F 1s2 2s2 2p5
Ne 1s2 2s2 2p6

The first two columns (called groups) refer to for the s orbital electrons.......

thats a lot of info but basically you just say the orbit then the ring and then to the power of how many are in the orbit
ex:

1s^2 2s^2 2p^6...
with no spaces
