The education is NOT the important part, the talent is. I don't know how old you are, but you're not too old to enjoy creating artwork. As an industry professional with 30+ years in the field, the first thing I'd say is, if you have a source of income, and it's adequate, DON'T quit to become an artist. The pay isn't always as good as people will tell you, and the older you are, the less chance someone will take a chance on you. Don't, however, give up on art! Purchase some art supplies, take them home, and let your light shine! You can enter your work in local art shows, if you require outside approval, or you can just do it for yourself. If you do go the art show route, don't be discouraged if someone puts your stuff down. Only YOU know how much you got from it, and how much it means to you. Art is subjective, too. What others like, may not be your style at all. (People said the impressionists were just fooling around, remember.) If you want, you can email me for more suggestions, but whatever you decide, don't give up on yourself!

If you want to become a graphic artist then you need to master the art of creating on the computer. You MUST know Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Quark, etc.

Get familiar with those programs, either by reading books or taking classes. You have to have that foundation if you want to become a graphic artist.

There are many jobs in graphic design. My husband just switch from animation to graphic design.

the level of education doesnt make a difference as long as you know how to apply the art principles and elements to your design, and as long as you know what your client wants.
