When you use a USB cable you need to install the software that comes with that hardware for which you are using the USB cable.

So, first plug in the USB port and then install the Drivers on the CD that ships with the Hardware Device you have bought.

If the USB Ports found on the CPU are not working then you will need to check if they are properly attached to the Motherboard inside the CPU.

you may need a driver when i got my computer up and running the usb ports did work and I went and got me an usb jump drive and it still did not work so I went to the maker of my computer and they did have drivers for the usb ports there also you can go to like lexmark that a name of some usb jump drives if thats what you need them for,, and get drivers there also,, but realy just go to the maker of your computer,, not winows,, but like compaq, dell,,ect,ect and they will most likely have a driver for the usb ports,, unless your computer is to old , but I think the company will most likely have them there for downloading free,, hope this helps

Windows XP or Windows 2000 automatically works with USB.

Windows 98 needs help, in the form of a driver, often downloaded from the internet.

you're running windows NT? that doesn't recognise USB ports.

Or control panel -> system -> device manager and search for devices in the list with little red or yellow flags on them. That's where the fault is. Almost certainly an interrupt conflict.

Firs you need to make sure that they are connected. if it is the on board ports the I would say you need update the drivers.

Try updating your USB drivers. It's also possible that you bought a crappy motherboard.
