Anyone have a list or something like that? I was told that certain types of fish cannot be mixed with other types of fish because they will eat each other.

first of all make sure your tank has bottom feeders, top feeders and middle feeders.
Group 1. Neon Tetras, Glowlight Tetras, Harlequin Rasboras, White Clouds, Fancy Guppies, Corydoras Catfish, Glass Fish, Honey Gouramis, and Ghost Shrimp.
These fish are compatible and a few of them will do well in a 15-gallon aquarium with warm water. These fish are not compatible with most other species of fish.

Group 2. Danios, Swordtails, Mollies, and Platies, plus Bigger Tetras such as Black Skirt Tetras, Painted Tetras, Serpae Tetras, Red Eye Tetras, Black Neon Tetras, and Silver Tip Tetras.
A few of these fish will do well in a 15-gallon aquarium with warm water. Each fish species in this group lives best in a group with several member of that species.

Group 3. Barbs, Gouramis, Sharks, Eels, and Loaches. Tiger Barbs and Tinfoil Barbs, plus Blue, Gold, and Opaline Gouramis, plus Bala Sharks, Red Tail Sharks, Rainbow Sharks, and White Tip Sharks.
These fish are mildly aggressive and compatible with each other. They will grow fast and need at least a 29-gallon aquarium with warm water. Eventually they will need a much bigger aquarium.

ok great starter fish the siamesse fighter!. you will possibly have neon tetras (very ideal) and the fighter and an loach. or you will possibly have all styles of livebearers (etc guppies, swordatils, platies and mollies) and a few tetras and consistent with threat a loach. or you will possibly have Danios (no longer extensive) and consistent with threat some mollies and a pink tailed shark and a loach. Thosse are some stable communitys those are some fish that get on: danios/ livebearers sharks loach sff guppy tetra danios/ X X O X O O tetra liveber X X X X S X Sharks O X O X X X loach X X X X X X sff O S X X X O guppy X X X X O X key: X= definite O= no longer properly matched S= some

To start off with, if you want tropical fish you'll need to start a salt water tank and to get the water right it'll take you close to a month to do that. You're best bet is to go to a pet store, pick out a fish that you really like and as the help there what other fish can be put in with the one you've chosen. They will know best what fish can live with what fish. I do have a suggestion that you stay away from a fish called a Paku. Starts out just a few inches long but grows rapidly and doesn't get along well with other fish.

I have had several aqauriums and also been told that there are certain fish you can put in a tank with others.Your safe bet would be to start out a new aquarium with community fish only. If you put community fish in with aggressive fish, chances are your aggressive fish will kill your community fish. You pretty much have to stick with one or the other.

usually your pet store will have somethign on the fish tank saying "this fish is compatible with..." but smaller fish of the same species or related species are good together and will form schools
