In the original, it was "Paulie" who was discovered to have helped to set up the assassination attempt against Don Vito. Later, Carlo helps with the plot to kill Sonny. Later in the film, at the Don's funeral, Tessio comes to Michael with the proposal for a meeting...but it's actually Tattaglia's plot to take control of the five families.
Lots of betrayals.

Fredo, the brother of Michael. Fredo was always seen as weak and just not very capable or bright by the rest of the family. He sees his chance to "make it big" and show everyone in the Corleone family he is important. He enters into a relationship with another mob family that are out to destroy the Corleone's. I'm not going to give the whole plot away for those who haven't seen the film, but there is an absolutely wonderful scene where Michael finds out that Fredo has betrayed him. Fredo gives himself away with a pretty innocent comment, but in that moment, Michael knows. Michael does not speak at this time, but watching his face as awareness, hurt, anger, and betrayal all cross his features is an amazing moment in film.
