yes, have you been reading many of my comments? Been saying this for months. NO society, empire, nation, country, etc on earth, has EVER in the history of the world NOT fallen apart! Its just a fact. I mean how many Romans, Mayans, Incas, babylonians do you see now?Time will decide when we fall, but lately it seems we may be headed that way sooner because of our actions in the world

I think we would be fooling ourselves to say it could never fall. Look around you. Look at our "leaders", who obviously are so fat and happy that they have gotten sloppy about hiding their vices. The powers that be have always controlled the masses more than we know, but they don't even try to hide it much anymore. There is an undeniable "anything goes" moral philosophy in this country that we have in common with Rome, which fell. The poisoning of young minds through what is allowed on tv, radio, internet, etc. is way out of hand. But, think about it- these diversions work for the powerful to keep the masses occupied and stupid. And, too many people are politically apathetic because they either couldn't be bothered, they are busy struggling just to get by, or the subtle realization has made its way to the back of their brain that the voice of the people has gotten lost in big government. I think the voice could be revived, and I for one believe in the values that this country was founded on- and I think if like minded people band together we could still be great. Or, I'm just whistling Dixie and our greatness has run its course, and we are in the beginning of the end times. So, the future is in God's hands. Each person has to do our part to express and hold onto what we hold dear, but the powers that be in this world will do what they will. And the power that reigns over us all will have the final say still.

Thats an interesting question. As has already been said there has not been a single dominating empire that has not fallen through whatever reason. Personally I would expect the The USA's influence to increase over the next few years leading to an increase in hostility to it. It cannot be assumed that power in this generation will transfer to the next. I do think that America will fall one day and I put it down to money, greed and desire - the downfall of all man.

Only if we expand our influence beyond our control. If you look at history, this is well represented. The Roman Empire had land up through europe and the middle east. Even the Nazi's (although they are a militaristic example) show this characteristic. If you expand to nations that are thousands of miles away and you have no way to control their actions and keep them happy, yes. Ever wonder why England, France, Portugal and Spain gave up the many countries they conquered...because they couldn't control them across the oceans.
In the words of the comedian Eddie Izzard "Beware America, because you and the Roman Empire are the only ones to put their hand on their hearts and you know what happened to them."

The possibilities are ever present when we start acting like our enemies, and we forget the principals under which this country was founded... by the people for the people... freedom, liberties and rights... equality for all, our inalienable rights... etc!
The time is ripe when we let elected demagogues lie and cheat and make laws that benefit a few over the vast majority of the populace, and those few are the ones controlling our government and elected officials!
Every empire that has fallen throughout history had abused and lied to its populace... where slogans and propaganda were used to herd people into pre-arranged actions, fabricated lies used to divide the populace, where wars were contrived to divert attention from the real problems, where the populace were given a common "enemy" to divert attention from the real problems facing, and people were turned one against the other, barriers installed to keep people in/out...the government spied on its citizenry, abused their rights, illegal clandestine jails, tortures, abuse of rights, public monies squandered, the country bankrupted, the poor, the elderly, retired and disabled sacrificed for the sake of the super rich and powerful where the common rights, liberties and freedoms are imperiled, illegal searches, the government spying on its citizenry and political opponents... and a large portion of fanatical followers yield their freedom, liberty and rights to the government under the illusion of safety in a police state... sound familiar?

michelle, don't be a dummy
the democrats and republicans can't save this country
they're controlled by corporations.... money given to both parties
is power, not your vote
it was started on evil and likely will fall..... stop living in a surreal white world
it didn't start with the power to the people concept that people would think. john quincy adams was the first president elected with the popular vote in effect, and that election still went to house
to be decided
wealthy landowners were the true benefitters at the start

The US is not going to crumble or fall apart anytime soon, but I don't see us being the biggest world power 50 years from now (hello, china). We will probably end up like England, still a big time player, but not the dominant power we have been the last 75 or so years.

YES. Not only is it possible it is probable. The time span for empires has become shorter and shorter throughout history. The Egyptian, and Roman Empires lasted for thousands of years. The British for hundreds. And now we can all see the decline of the American Empire. Corruption and internal fighting is the handwriting on the wall. America will collapse in our lifetimes. Get out while you still can. Canada is nice.

I think ft the United States will not change its course it may fall one day. It is headed down a very dangerous path. Nothing in this country is sustainable forever, our economy, our job market, our population, our current spending, our military outreach.
We need a complete and total overhaul of our government and our election and campaign process. We need a complete overhaul of the corporate tax structure. We need a complete overhaul of social security and all social programs. We need a complete overhaul of our public school system.

I think there will come a time when our population is so huge it can no longer be effectively represented by a central government, at which point the States will have to pick up the ball.
