My cousin recently suffered an ectopic pregnancy.

She was over the moon when her test was positive. However, a few weeks later, after suffering severe cramp and bleeding she was admitted to hospital and they diagnosed an ectopic pregnancy.

They embryo was basically growing in her fallopian tube. It was perfectly formed and had a heartbeat which was strong. However, there is no way the pregnancy could continue in her tube - it would eventually burst, possibly resulting in her death (and the death of the fetus).

The only way to treat an ectopic pregnancy is to open the tube and remove the embryo. Its basically an abortion.

So how do you anti abortionists feel about it. Should a woman with an ectopic pregnancy be left to possibly die (the baby will die as well of course) rather than remove the embryo? There is no way a woman can carry a baby to term in her fallopian tubes! It is just not physically possible.

I'm not anti abortion. In some circumstances I beleive its for the best.

I just read all these posts on here screaming about "baby killers" blah blah and I wonder what you would have said to my cousin who had her perfectly healthy little embryo "aborted" because it couldn't continue living in her tube.

She was, needless to say, absoltuely devastated.

That really is something totally different! That pregnancy would not have continued if left alone. The baby would have never been viable.

When it comes down to it....who cares what others may think about terminating pregnancy or not! Jeez, do you really care what the pro-lifers are preaching or just starting another contraversial line of responses? Thank goodness EVERY women has freedom of choice, not that abortion should ever be used as a means of birth control but there are enough stupid people in our world without adding more to it. And since so many of the pro-life believers DO NOT and CANNOT support and care for all the unwanted cytoblasts or embryos that are terminated. Go with what you can live with. Either-Or. Heartfelt condolences to your cousin. May she be rewarded for loss.

Ok well I'm Pro-Choice.I believe a woman has the right to do what she wants with her body. Also no I have never had a abortion or would I.I have 2 beautiful kids and one on the way and could never imagine life without them.I was also one of those young girls who got pregnant in her teens but had enough support from the father and now husband along with our families.I wanna know how these Pro-Life people can say this is not a true pregnancy?Just because the baby was in her tube rather then in her Uterus. It had a heartbeat and was formed.Your very much hypocrites.Considering most Pro-Life demonstrators believe a Fetus is a baby as soon as it is conceived.I wish your cousin the best of luck and a wonderful future in having children.

I agree with abortions in certain circumstances 100%. Such as ectopic pregnancy, rape, medical illness (physical or mental) in the mother, and abortion due to a woman in a long term coma, etc. There are always exceptions, however, too may people just go and get a quick "fix" for their mistakes. It's sad, and abortions should only stay legal for these reasons listed above. I am against abortion on all other levels. Please give your cousin my sympathys, and I hope she will go on to have a successful future pregnancy.

The woman would die from bleeding eventually and would be very painful even before then.
If it is caught in time, the embryo has to be removed, the fallopian tube can be saved. Sometimes this has to be removed also if severe enough.
Painful physically and emotionally for any woman.

Thank you for this post. I am also pro choice because someone close to me had an etopic pregnancy some years ago.
In Nicaragua and Poland legislation could soon be passed which would ban all abortion, even when the life of the woman is at risk. Please get in touch with the governments of the respective countries and ask them to stop this legislation that will mean an effective death sentence for hundreds of women each year.

That's not abortion, it's an operation to keep the mother alive. There is no way that embryo is going to grow into a baby, so I don't feel why you even felt the need to ask the question.

I'm against abortion because some people use it as birth control, ectopic pregnancys however are against everyones control. The fetus would eventually die anyways even if it wasn't removed. Since lives can be saved by removing the fetus I think that it should definately be removed and that shouldn't count as abortion anyways because as someone stated above its not a true pregancy if the fetus is growing in the fallopian tubes.

to loose a baby in any way is devastating but an ectopic pregnancy is not a viable pregnancy and it was not your cousins decision to make so I would not class that as an abortion.
I am basically anti abortion but find it difficult to reconcile that with my belief in personal freedom to choose what happens to your own body.

if u read my previous quest. and ans. on this subject i am very much against abortion, however i didn't even think about an ectopic pregnancy and i will have to say there is no way the baby or the mother could live through that so i would say its acceptable, but that would be the only reason i would say its acceptable

I don't believe in abortions but in some cases there are exceptions. When the mother's life is at risk it's a different story. The mother's health comes first, because if the mother isen't healthy the baby won't be either.
