Very briefly:

The Kurds are a people who have lived for thousands of years in an area that is in the three countries, Iran, Iraq, and Turkey. They are Muslims, some Shias and some, perhaps majority, Sunnis. They have their own language, though most speak the official language of the country they are in. They have faced considerable atrocities, and have been betrayed by the governments of the three countries they live in, for instance there were times they weren't allowed to have schooling in their native tongue. I may be wrong, but I think Irani governments have been the most cordial, but this could well be because Iranian population is composed of large minprities, Turk, Balooch, Lor, Bakhtiari, Armenian, etc.

The two main sects in Islam are Shias and Sunnis, with Iran being predominantly Shia, while in Iraq I think a little more than half the population is Shia. There are also significant number of Shias in Lebanon, especially South Lebanon, and Afghanistan and about 20% in Pakistan. While in Pakistan there has always been strife between the two sects, in the other countries there was little, if any, animosity. As a consequence of American and Israeli agenda which includes the policy of "divide and rule" in recent years there's been some animosity, but what you hear in the news is a lot more exaggerrated because the Americans are trying to portray the insurgency in terms of Shia and Sunni divisions whereas it is mainly a conflict of resistance against plundering occupation forces. Aside from the redneck and ignorant and illiterate sections of the population there is harmony between the two sects. Basically, the Shias are followers of the Household of the prophet, and our hadith includes the sayings of the son-in-law of the prophet, and the twelve imams who are his descendants (through his daughter, Fatima). The Sunnis usually belong to one of the four or five schools of thought, or interpretions of Islam like Hanifi, etc. This may suffice as a start for you!

Can't shine much light on your question, The Sunnis dominate the Arab states, in that they are the wealthy tribe. The Shias are the poorer throughout the Arab states. The Kurds, not sure where they came from or how they got into the mix, thought of researching the kurds but haven't. At any rate seems nobody likes them, not even the turks.

against the Iraq conflict yet in view that all of us started it we'd desire to end it. of path there is the possibility that with Saddam in means we'd have finally had to pass to conflict quicker or later. Who is conscious? I in simple terms think of the money might have been extra ideal spent interior the country on kin potential progression. techniques you, i'm no longer some fool who's blindly anti-conflict or anti-militia. till each and every physique interior the international ceases to be aggressive there'll continually be a choose for a militia. as long as worldwide places compete for land and components there will be conflict. people who marketing campaign to end all wars or eliminate the militia stay in a dreamworld.

Wow, the first two answers just sucked!!

To be truthful, I am uncertain myself. You would assume that since they are all the same faith, they would see things eye to eye. The best analogy is the Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland, both are Christian, celebrate the same holidays and believe in Jesus and the same God... But they really hate each other. There were a lot of other underlying factors like England taking over that part of the country that helped that situation develop, maybe this is similar?

I know one difference. The Shias believe in temporary marriage. In other words they can marry someone for the weekend by reciting something and then its okay to have sex. After the weekend or what ever time is decided the marriage is over. The Sunnis are totally against it.
If this is wrong someone please correct me. I heard it from a Sunni man.

The Sunnis believe that Muhammad passed on the leadership of the Islamic faith to a community elected Caliph. The Shihites believe that Muhammad passed on the leadership of the Islamic faith to his heirs, starting with Ali. That is what they are fighting about.

I only know about the Sunni and the Shi'a... The Sunni believe that church and state should be separte. The Shi'a believe the church should be the governing body of the country. The Sunni are in control, and the Shi'a want control.
