I really admire the imagination some people have. Here are a couple of ideas.

Take triangles of newsprint (about 1/2 inch at the base) and roll them up, base side first into beads. (Use a toothpick to help you roll them. Glaze them with glue. If you choose the newsprint with the prettiest colors, you can get fantastic beads. Vary the size of the triangles to make different size beads.

I also saw on TV a woman who made brooches with the plastic from soda bottles. She cut the flower petals out of the PET plastic, then swiped them over the gas burner of her stove, and they melted just slightly, and turned into wonderful things. (-: Of course, she had a lot of natural talent. And of course, this is totally dangerous, so make sure you have a fire extinguisher and cold water handy! You might try candle flame for a little more control, but plastic really is flammable and dangerous, so be careful if you try it.

Totally on the safe side is origami flowers. You can practice making them with plain newsprint squares, and then use interesting wrapping paper, potato chip bags, whatever to get special effects once you have the basics down. (-: Well, watch out for paper cuts, but still, it's a lot safer than playing with fire.
