The moon doesn't have a face as you would think of a face. From Earth the pattern of the craters on the moon gave the impression of a face to ancient man.Hence the expression THE MAN IN THE MOON. It very much the same as saying the moon was made of cheese because the crater holes made it look like it was.Don't take everything literally. The first astronauts to land on the moon landed in the area known as the Sea of Tranquillity. There is no oceans on the moon either.

When looking at the moon with the naked eye it seems as if there is a face. This was created when meteors crashed onto the surface of the moon thousands of years ago sending shockwaves through the moon that caused volcanic eruptions . Molten magma spilled across the surface. When it cooled it created dark patches called Lunar Maria or Lunar Seas
The eyes are Mare Imbrium and Mare Serenitatis,The nose Sinus Aestuum, The mouth is Mare Nubium and Mare Cognitum

Throughout history people have seen a face in the moon formed from the craters and regions. interestingly the moon sits at a slightly different angle in the southern hemisphere such as Australia where they talk of seeing a rabbit in the moon (for northern hemisphere people just tilt your head to the right a bit & you'll see what they mean).

face can be defined as front side appearance. The surface of the moon in which you see could be called the moons face if you choose to call it that. The same applies to a watch, some call the dial a watch face.
