I posed a question a few minutes ago stating that I dislike both Liberal and Conservative talk radio hosts because they are "yes" men for their perspective parties. I used Rush Limbaugh as my example and immediately many people became angry that I would call into question his character/motivations. Maybe I’m mistaken and I just don’t listen to him enough to make an educated opinion. I listen to Rush maybe one hour a week. In that time I have never heard him state something positive that he likes about democrats/liberals. Also, I have very rarely heard him criticize anything about the Republican Party. If he really felt that there was no good in having a second opposing party then he would support a single-party state government. So I guess my question is do you think Rush Limbaugh is a “yes” man for the Republican Party. If you don’t think he is, please list a few positive things he’s said about democrats…..Thanks

Bottles, I did appreciate your honest answer, however it was not a clear answer to my question. I used the Mark Foley issue as an example of a Talk Show host taking an extreme take on an issue to avoid having to give too much criticism for the party he supports. He played down Foley’s actions and came close to blaming the Paige’s. I picked on Limbaugh, because is probably the most recognizable talk show host. I could make similar arguments against Jeanine Garoifilo (spelling?) and Shawn Hanity. I disagree with anyone that holds to a single party on every single issue.

Bottles, I'm sorry that we don't agree and I guess angry/immediate can be a relative term. I would say that your edited response to me here was angry. I base that on you stating that I look "foolish". On the other thread their were several people that simply insulted Limbaugh and several people that made comments like this one, "an informed voter would never claim to be a moderate. yuor posistions indicate liberalism. liberals always claim to be moderates or reformed conservatives. either way they and you are liars.". I would say that someone calling me a liar is a bit on the angry side. Maybe you should reread those comments and let me know if you still disagree.

This is not the exact quote I was looking for, but it does show how Rush tries to make the pages look like the bad guys: Back in these days you could call Sears and order a refrigerator on the phone. I had a teacher living up the street and it was the biggest thrill in the world to just call and order a refrigerator and watch Sear deliver it to an unsuspecting teacher, and far stranger things than that. But we always picked out adults that we just thought were weird, and it would be fun to make fun of them, and I don't think kids today are any different…But you know as well as I do that young kids make fun of gay people. They make fun of the way they talk; they make fun of the way some of them walk and so forth. Who knows what the word around town about fellow Foley was. Who knows? We all know that young people gay bash. Young people do a lot of stuff. They don't have the maturity to understand this kind of stuff…I tell you, folks, you've got this page out there you probably have a bun

I tell you, folks, you've got this page out there; you probably have a bunch of pages laughing and making fun of Foley and the way he comes on to them, and he's gay and so forth, so they egg him on and so forth

rush, like other libs and cons in themedia play the game , to upset some, make others cheer, and stir upemotions so we end up arguing amounst ourselves....they also do this for ratings, and sometimes things are said only as a sarcastic JOKE, whihc many everday viewers pick up on, while others who rarely listen take offense and go nuts over, not realizing it was a joke...Rush is a master of all of this. While I have listened to Rush since around1991, on wtic radio here. locally....Ii have loved him, hated him, and felt he was a hypocrite(with his not taking responsibilty for his actions with drugs) as he promoted daily for years against the libs saying they dont want us to take responisbility for their actions, neither did he. I was even a ditto head once, and subscribed to his Newspaper/mag. I have a clinton watch Ibought from rush, which of course runs backwards... hehehe
But YES Rush is indeed a yes man for conservatives.. ofcourse.
But i have and still do agree with many things he says, yet understand its all for ratings, andknow when he is being sarcastic... hehe I love his words he makes up to describe certain groups...such as femi-nazi or drive-by media, but again, I believe the agenda overall is withBOTH parties consfusing us with all of this while they BOTH steal our hard earned cash and take away our freedoms... reguardless of what any of themsay!

Hey man. You did not ask the question that way. And now I'd appreciate that you go back and READ my answer. It was to the point and to the 'letter' in response to your EXACT question.

EDIT* I just went back and READ every answer. .. . NOBODY "immediately got angry" .. .. NOBODY..Sometimes we see what we want to SEE. Go Back and READ THOSE RESPONSES AGAIN... or continue to look foolish.. .. either way is your CHOICE.

EDIT* Well I guess we grew up differently. That guys comment doesn't indicate anger to me. And you implied there were others as well ..'people'...Anyway my reply was not angry either. If you interpret "CAPITAL" letters as anger, it's not for me. I use CAPS when I want to EMPHASIZE a word or phrase. Don't let your FEELINGS get hurt so easily. Those folks weren't that hard on you. And I still would like to get a transcript of Rush's show that day. On the surface it sounds like maybe the quote is taken out of CONTEXT. But I'll make no judgements until I see the FACTS.

Bombastic, yes. Bigoted, no. First, Rush is an entertainer. He likes to push people's buttons. The things you describe are buttons he apparently pushed on you. You reacted and posted examples here to find others who support your position in opposition. In other words, you are using his words to push a few buttons of your own. In example 1, and I do believe I happened to be listening the day he said this, or something very, very close to it, we see fact followed by a punchline. First, we did have slavery. Slavery, while onerous to us today and a fair number then, was a societal fact of life--many, certainly not all, of the slaves brought out of Africa early in the slave trade were people enslaved by Africans that were simply sold to buyers. Culturally, until our freedom philosophizing, slavery was part of life and usually only bad to only the slave. Slavery wasn't a race thing, or even a gender thing, and of all the slaves in the world, they weren't only black (checkout the Chinese who were still buying and selling people, including Chinese). That "slavery built the South" is simple fact, that is what the slaves were acquired to do--the hard work. The comic misdirection, a fundamental feature of nearly every comic, came next. If that is racist, I can name you piles of black comics who have said worse and they were pointedly talking race at the time. In example 2, I don't recall hearing that line, but I have heard several similar. The context was usually some congressional gaff, in this case he was probably talking about an award of a medal of honor to someone that Rush felt was politically motivated. Ever since cpl. Adolph Hitler was awarded the iron cross (the German medal of honor) for getting shrapnel in his butt while delivering a message in WWI, we have found examples of award processes gone nuts. In the TV show MASH, they had more than a few spoofs of that. I suspect that some politician was asking for a medal to gain racial and political correctness points, so Rush was sarcastically positing Ray in response. Rush dishes out sarcasm with a shovel. In example 3, and I'll stop here, the sarcasm is heaped upon Jesse Jackson for any of dozens of pious pontificating against real or imagined racial slights that gave Jackson and his ilk another photo op, and likely a monetary shakedown. Jackson, Rangel, and others are famous for talking a good game of shame against whites and white run organizations and just as soon as a public apology accompanying a check to their foundation or whatever, all is forgiven and well with the world. Jesse Jackson could be purple and come from Mars for all Rush cared, it was what Jackson was using celebrity and his rainbow coalition for, which if I had done it might be called extortion. Rush a racist bigot? Naw, but the last thing he is might be politically correct. If I said what I really thought of political correctness, I would be banned from this forum.

I don't know if I have ever heard him say positive things about the Democrats. He is a conservative so naturally he has little positive to say about Democrats. I do not either; I joined the Republican party because I agree with most of their views, same for Rush.

I have heard him critical of the Republican party. He is always criticizing them on the border and on overspending.

Limbaugh is just aping an entertainer, he cannot entertain any other way but to bash Democrats and liberals in particular. He is most assuredly backed by the Republican (police government/dictator wannabes) because Republicans listens to Limbaugh more than they do the Christian/Evangelicans, which we know the Republicans only tolerate for the money they can milked from them.

Keep Rush talking so that he will remain a grand example of the ignorance shared by so many head-in-the-sand, chest beating, school yard bully, self-centered, unthinking conservatives.

Biased talk shows are not worth watching in my opinion. And since when are there any liberal talk shows? No news network has that, although Fox News does have conservative (basically neo-conservative) talk shows
