Try to find someone in that field, if not in your town, then a larger town nearby, that you could interview and pick their brain. Offer to buy them lunch.

You would be surprised how a professional loves to talk about what they do, when they love what they do. It will not be any imposition at all for them. They will gladly sit with you for hours and give you advice.

Before you pay for college, and decide a career and your future, a little groundwork and insight is incredibly beneficial.
