YOU CAN'T START DELETING AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE---YOU'LL ONLY DELETE 50 E-MAILS AT A TIME THAT WAY.
USE THE SCROLLBAR. Go down the list of e-mails as far as it will let you go. The scrollbar will get smaller the farther down the list you go.
If there are thousands of e-mails(as there were in the situation I was dealing with) there will be buffering while the program works to get to the emails.
THEN , GO TO THE BOX AT THE TOP AND CHECK IT.THEN, HIT DELETE.
I was able to delete up to 2000 e-mails at a time that way.
MUCH better than 50 e-mails at a time.
Happy cleaning!!!

you can't do that in the free yahoo mail account. if you had the paid one you could use outlook or thunderbird email programs that allow you to do that.
however you can delete all emails in a free gmail account with one click. if you want gmail email me at cssiscool@gmail.com and i'll send you an invite.
★★ FASTER DELETE IN FREE YAHOO MAIL ★★
◙ You cannot clear it all at one time. all you can do is 200 emails at one time.
◙ Go here http://us.f307.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Preferences?YY=49878&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes and select "200" from the drop down menu that says "messages/results per page". This way you can delete more at one time.
◙ Go back to the inbox and click the check all link and click delete. There is no other way to do it.
◙ After you are through go back here http://us.f307.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Preferences?YY=49878&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes and reset the number of pages/results per page to 25 or 50 or whatever you want.
◙ Read this great book. It will teach you many ways to get more out of Yahoo.

For @ least some systems, there should be a 'check all" option(in mine- it's @ bottom of inbox--left hand side. Do that, then hit "delete".
Otherwise, you have to just delete individually, I guess.
