Wether in High School or College,it's the same answer. Study, study, study.
Your social life is going to have to take a back seat if you want to get those grades up. So are your favorite TV shows. I was the same way.
Read the material over and over. This not only helps to make it stick in your mind, but when that test gets put in front of you, your mind won't go blank at the last second.
If you have a tape recorder, read the material into the recorder and listen to it in your free time. Good luck.

For me, preparations depend on the subject. The main thing, always is to make sure you understand the concepts.

For math, a good way is to do a lot of practice problems, especially for the ones you're not sure about. If something is too hard, follow the book (sometimes they have examples or answers for select problems in the back.) And then try it without the book, so you'll know how to do it for the test.

For history or something that requires a lot of memorization, I find index cards very useful. One concept for each card, and only write on the front. Keep your wording simple and confined to an "outline" format. For example, this would be on one index card:

(Title)Reasons for American Revolution
A. Taxation w/o representation
1. Stamp Act
2. (etc)
B. Intolerable Acts aggravated colonists
1. closed Boston ports
2. (etc)
C. Scuffles and "Massacres"
1. Boston Massacre
2. (etc)
D. Proclamation Line... (you get the point)

I find this very helpful because each concept is stripped to its bare ideas. Also, each concept gets its own card and on the day of my test, I can study only the cards that I still don't remember, instead of having to look over an entire page of notes. Overall, index cards are very effective at helping you focus on one concept at a time so you don't bogged down in too much information.

The index cards are also very useful for if you have to write essays b/c now I can remember that the Revolution was fueld by A Taxation w/o Representation, B. Intolerable Acts, etc, and I'll be able to write a very organized essay from my outlined index card.

For science or a subject that is very dense and difficult to understand, (science is definitely my most challenging subject) it's important to really read the textbook and get the main ideas down. I suggest you do an outline while you read, to help retain information and increase understanding. Again, keep your wording fairly simple, so your notes will be easy to read and study later. When you study, you can try using index cards.

Also note. Sometimes something is easier to process if you put it in a chart or diagram. For example, a Venn Diagram (you can make it in a list form) makes it easier to compare and contrast to things.

Also note: When you get quizzes back, make sure you understand why you got something wrong. If not, ask your teacher/professor. You'll want to know the correct answer so you can study for midterms/finals.

Lastly, if you don't understand something despite having studied a lot, don't be afraid to ask your teacher/professor for help. That's why they're there! If your teacher is not available to help, something I have found is VERY helpful is study group. Study with classmates and you will understand a lot more than if you study by yourself, I guarantee it.

Good luck on all future exams!

i adviced and guided all my children during their school days (now theyre all professional on their own field) i would like to share the simple and specific way of learning. First- good nutrient, a good balance diet is good for the memory.,/Second-good and proper sleep, for the energy (avoid stressfull activities two weeks before the exam).,/Third-list down the important facts/topic of every subject to be taken, from there slowly you can write down the details, and you will surely remember even without trying hard the important details of every subjects.,/ Fourth-time management-better everyday you have time to your studies, lets say two hours per day, with this you can still enjoy the extra time to your extra curicular activities.,/Fifth-condition yourself, if you arent in the mood of studiying your lesson, its useless, because your mind would not absorb the lesson that suppose to be memorize. and Sixth-concentration-this is the most important basic thing to do.hope these can help you.

first of all u have to know what ure studying..
no joke about it, some ppl do not know what they're revising, end up flipping pages, wasting time.
check your exam syllabus, what u need to know, what's important and what's not.
when studying alone, read the chapter first to make sure u understand the content, then try to map it in ur own words.. take out the gist memorize it.. revise the test, check out ur teacher's notes/ ur notes uve written down in class.. never wait to ask when there're questions popping out which u cant answer on ur own, write it down and ask, take note of it.. do some past year test if u have them

when studying with ur frenz, plan what topic/s or subject/s u need to cover. read it b4 hand so that later u can exchange info. it helps if one of u r gd in the sub./ topic ure revising.

this work for me for my bio,chem,geography..etc. unfortunately for maths there's no other way out except for practise and keep on practising and practising.. ugh..

hope this helps
take care and stay bubbly ^_^

Study, but don't cram it all in or you'll forget everything. Review everything a little before the test, and make sure you get alot of sleep.

The best way is to do the assignments. What you get wrong on assignments you will have to find out what the correct answer is.
