From the Military Commissions Act to the Patriot Act - we are under assault by the party that so far controls ALL 3 branchs of government. There is no stopping them unless we gain control of one or two Houses and re instate Congressional Oversight.

While the asker clearly dislikes the acts named as associated with President Bush, I suggest that focusing on a single administration to point to the cause of loss of rights will in the end the loss of rights. In other words, it has rarely mattered which party holds the White House. Since the time of ratification of the Constitution it has been a dance of use of the federal government to intrude on the rights of the individual.
If a person is seriously concerned about losing such rights, then begin with the reading of history to first understand the True Intent of the Founders and why they believed as they did. Then come to understand how those rights have been whittled away by those in the Federal Government disregarding the Constitutional limitations placed on them exceeding their Constitutionally delegated powers. It hasn’t made any difference which political party has been in power, nor does it help to blame this on a single branch of the government, all political parties which have held power and all three branches of government have contributed to the minimizing of the Constitution.
That said, it is also true that we live in dangerous times which are increasingly perilous. During the last 20 odd years the West (not just the United States) has been attacked multiple times, 11 September 2001 was graphically the worse such attack. Those attacking the West are committed to the destruction of the West and will do anything to reach that goal. If individuals do not agree with actions taken by our government to protect our country and defeat this barbaric enemy, then work to develop different approaches.

Exactly what is it you can no longer do that you were able to do 6 years ago or more???
You have not lost any civil rights. If you think political spin and political gamesmanship are answers to this country's problems, then vote for the Democrats. Some leading Democrats have already announced they plan to impeach President Bush if they get control of the House of Representatives. In other words, in the middle of a war, they are prepared to bog down the administration in domestic political and legal hassles, putting the winning of the White House in 2008 ahead of winning the war on terrorism.

Apparently. They've certainly made a good start at it. And, the number of people on this site insisting that no one's rights have been curtailed are probably a fair representation of the number of people in the country who can't or won't see a problem until something happens directly to them that forces them to see it. Far too many.

Smell the coffee and wake up. We are at war. I think you'd have to say that we have surrendered far less civil liberties during this war than we did during the Roosevelt administration.
But if you want real permanent loss of civil liberties, put the Dems back into control and they and their legislative judges, along with the ACLU will take care of them.

Sure why not?
I mean people in this country have already demonstrated with this last Presidential election that they are too stupid to preserve the freedoms and libertys that our founding fathers gave their lives for.
If you arent smart enough to realize what is being taken away from you you dont deserve it anyway. So while I greatly oppose Bush and every vile thing he has done, this country has no one to blame but itself. Democrats need to be just as evil and backhanded as Karl Rove if they are ever going to accomplish anything.
