I usually spend (I wish I could say 'waste' without feeling so guilty) over 9 hours on the internet, sometimes I spend my whole day online. I know a lot of people who spend as much time as me online and unlike me, they feel fine. In their case, there are no consequences.

I haven't been able to acces the internet for a month, and during that time I have solved all the communication issues I had with my family and the usual arguments I had with them disappeared. Although I missed being online, I felt better in a weird, unusual way.
When I was able to access the internet again, I started feeling unusually angry and I started causing arguments in my family with no reason, without even intending to. I just felt somehow disconnected from the world.
I have 2 questions:
1. Do any of you feel like this when you're on?
2. What can I do to diminish this effect that the internet has over me without having to reduce my time online?

By the way, I'm 13, so I obviously don't have much of a life.

mookie: Firstly, please, don't 'dear' me. Just because I'm 13 and I'm younger than you and I'm a kid (yeah, right) it doesn't mean I need to be patronized. On the contrary.
And yes, I'm 13. Why do you find that so impossible? Just because I think and type coherently? And by the way, I'm not even English, I'm Romanian. So I bet you're gonna say I'm a genius now.
I agree with you though, I DO think too much. But I can't say the same about you. And I guess you're way older than me since you ironized me so much.

sunray: I know I have lots of other options, but that's not what I'm asking, because I don't want to quit using the internet, just its consequences.

Yes it has an effect. Because when we are online we don't care about communicating with someone. Like you always think that you have the computer and you don't need any other relationship.
You fell safe that you have the internet and you need nothing else and that means you don't communicate or respect others and results in worsening relations with parents and friends.

Internet can be addictive and I was. Just keep a rule like only certain hours a day and the rest with you family.

Cold turkey! Look for a hobby to do. THere are thousands of things to get into. If you're self conscious, learn to love yourself and go out there! If you have to, take your mom to a local museum. Or find a hobby at home. Read books, magazines. Visit the library a lot.

dude, read a book, go outside and have fun. internet is a good thing in moderation, you're missing out on "real life" which is far more rewarding then surfing the web all day.
