Well, there are treatments out there that claim to work for everyone but i've found that they are only effective for some. These include the patch, hypnotherapy, acupuncture, the gum, a drug called zyban. etc...But really the best way i would suggest if you can swing it, would be to do it cold turkey. Yeah i know, i know, it's extreemely difficult. I'm a smoker myself. But if you could point out and eliminate things that set you back on your goal. You would have more success. For instance, the people that you would normally hang around and bum smokes from, ask them to support you in your goal to quit, by not smoking around you at all. If these people care about you then they will. If you need to do something about the anxiety portion of quitting, there are a ton of over the counter herbal "calm you downs", that would be benificial. Such as "valerian", "sleepy time tea", etc. Just ask the pharmasist about them. And the reason that you feel loopy after not smoking for awhile is completely normal. I'ts not so much from the withdrawls as it is you breathing in more oxygen than you are used to. When you smoke, you get a buzz because you are depleting oxygen in your body or depriving it of oxygen. (or at least an amount of oxygen). You also dehydrate yourself when you smoke. Its a result of all the chemicals in cigarrettes. (carbon monoxide, tar, etc) This also explains part of the loopy withdrawls. The biggest prob. however, is your own thoughts. You could always consider trying a "Quit smoking" subliminal message cd/tape. This i have found works only if you constantly listen to it for as long as you need. It actually makes you not feel the need to smoke. You might also consider brainwashing yourself into thinking that cigarrettes are nasty, and not doing anything good for you. You can do this by telling yourself over and over in your head. This works!! I have actually been able to quit a lot of things this way. Also, very important, is to tell yourself that you can do this. As many times over as it takes. Don't waste time beating yourself up over failed attempts to quit in the past. Just keep your head up, and do what you can to keep going. My mom actually tried over 20 times before succeeding. And she hasn't had a smoke for 20 years. It can be done, and there isn't anything different in you that would make it impossible to accomplish. You are human body. You have been taking in the same chemicals as any other smoker. And they did it. You definitely can do this.! Anyways, try that if you like. It should help. And good luck. I know it seems impossible, but it really isn't. You are more than capable to do this. You just have to replace those set back thoughts with motivational ones.

Go to www.lbrady.com That is Lindsey Brady Institute which is hypnotherapy and from what I understand he is real good. He has a CD you can get (I think are $39) and listen to them when you are in the car. That would certainly be the cheapest route yet! I smoke and plan on quitting but I want to get some of the stress off my back 1st then put some effort into it. I plan on getting the CD and trying it out.

There is a new medication. It begins with a "C" and for the life of me I can't think of it.
There is another new medication coming out in the spring of 07 called Accomplia. Very high success rates.
Also and probably more importantly, try therapy. Success rates double when coupled with the patch, gum, medication, etc....

There is an experimental energy psychology technique that is awesome for breaking addictions. It's called EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). It's easy to learn and the founder provides a free download of the instruction manual on his website. Easy to find with a search like google. Many psychologists and hypnotherapists are now using this in their practices so if you want professional help, find one that uses it.

I suggest you take it step by step, don´t try to quit in one day but cut the number of cigarettes by 1 per day and make sure this process takes about a month (you may have to smoke about the same number for 2 or 3 days running).

i have tried and tried,but nothing seems to work,as i have been smoking for more than 30 years.i am so stressed from my family feuding ,so i smoke more than a pack a day.i wish for myself to stop.but like you ,bad dreams ,cold turkey the works.from mikhal in israel.

You probably need a combination of different approaches: Patches/gums, medication, therapy, and exercise.
