One mile five times a week is better, because it establishes a healthy rhythm for the body. It's the "weekend athletes" that go to fast, too far and end up with heart attacks. Gradual is best.
Time the one mile, and try to cover a little bit more ground in that same time, every week or so.

Well, some professionals, believe that you need to walk a good distance at normal pace in order to get the benefit of losing body weight. They say that for the first half hour you are only getting your heart rate up. Then time spent after that is when you actually burn body fat. But for the most part, I, from experience, along with the majority of professionals, and beneficiaries have found that it is better to walk or exercise a little bit every day. This helps to raise and maintain a high metabolism. Which in turn, burns off you're food for you. It also keeps you healthier and in shape for the long term. Besides, if you were to only walk, once a week for 5 miles at a time, it would make it hard to stick to because you would always be sore from it. And probably wouldn't look forward to the walk knowing this. If you walk everyday for 1 mile, if that's your chosen amount, then it wouldn't be as difficult to do. And your body would expect and be used to it. So that would be my advise. I strongly recommend you do a little bit every day. This way, also, you won't as easily pull or strain something.

Option C; two miles three times a week. The reason is this. Your body is built to adapt. Alternating between aerobic conditioning one day followed by resistance the next keeps it guessing. You should not keep the same routine for more than 4-6 weeks. Also, change the walking from interval (fast for one minute, slower for 2) to endurance walking (up to an hour at a moderate pace) to sprinting (20 minutes at a brisk pace) for the maximum benefit. Aerobic activity should consist of a 5-minute warm-up before the workout, which should last a minimum of 20 minutes, and conclude with a 5 minute cool down. Be healthy and stay safe.

I'm pretty sure walking 1 mile five times a week is better for you, since exercising once a week won't help you much, and exercising (almost) everyday is supposed to be better for you.

one mile five times a week, because that way you get your calorie burning done on a regular basis. You also won't strain yourself with too much sudden excersize your body won't be used to.
