You're not racist. I suspect the girl was reacting to a perception that you were denying the value of blackness by not identifying as black.

We all know the history of the one drop rule and all that. That legacy has left scars. It's also left a strong sense of racial solidarity and kinship among people with any identifiable black ancestry. If you appear to be rejecting that kinship, it's not surprising that the reaction will be negative.

If you want less beef from other black folk, just note that you embrace the African and European parts of your heritage. If you come across like one of those "I'm not black!!!!" people, then you should expect a lot more hostility from black folk.

Shouldn't be that way and I suspect that in a generation with all the intermixture going on, it won't be nearly to the same degree.

You are not racist, it's the truth. You are biracial. In fact she owns a slave mind by behaving like that. She proved you that she has a feeling of inferiority towards white people which is a product of her mind. In fact she believes you are ashame of your half black and that you should call yourself black as you are half black. But what about the half white?! She just doesnot want to see that. That's the slave mind!

It's a pity.

NO, it wasn't fair and I dont believe you're racist. But i hate to answer a question with a question but why wouldn't it be OK to answer biracial, i mean that is what you are, why is it so important that you have to define who you are in terms of color? You re who you are because of your parents and what you learned as growing up.

Girl forget about her. You are in fact Biracial. If you were ashamed of the black that's in you then you wouldn't refer to yourself as being biracial, you would only be white. I think it is very mature of you to acknowledge all aspects of your heritage. Don't worry about ignorant people, that girl was just taking what ever anger she had out on you.

No, your not racist some, not all, blacks think that having a little bit of black in your makes you black. This may be due to the Plessy vs. Furgeson supreme court case, but this ruling was overturned by Brown vs. Board.

no you are not racist for telling the truth. You have both of best worlds (African & European). You can not help who your parents are and don't feel bad about that. I think the black girl who told you that is has a deep seated jealousy. As long as you don't feel you are superior than her, then you have nothing to worry about. Keep your head up!

You're right... The racist was her. We all share genetic material, so the word "race" is kind of obsolete by now. I'd rather judge people on their achievements than on their "racial traits". If you want more info, check any scientific article about Mitochondrial Eve and you'll see that every single human on the planet is genetically related.

She called you a racist before she recognized that you had a legitimate question and she had no answer. Maybe it got her thinking. You are not racist at all! You are dealing with the outcome of having parents who came from different heritages.

No you are not racist. I'm tan and I look black but I'm actually Latino, one time a black girl asked if I was black and I said no and she said that she thinks I am but I just don't want to admit it. I simply ignored her, she is the one who looks ignorant.

You are not a racist, she is wrong. You just said the truth about yourself and you didn't deny your black half, so I don't know why you should be racist.
