you don't *technically* have to, the computer can be shutdown or restarted by making a shortcut to this:
shutdown -s
then double clicking the icon you created.

some computers can be shutdown by pressing the power button.

if you mean why click start when you're finished, it is probably just because everything needs to be somewhere and the majority of options are also within the start menu. plus you're starting the shutdown process so it does make sense for it to be there.

This is a silly question. But if you must know of an alternate way the press CNTRL, ALT Delete and bring up task manager. There is shut down function in there.

Start is a button.

To start shutting down you must start the shut down process that safely shuts down the computer.

The same button gives you other choices also.

It is the most safe way to prevent accidental shut down and loosing all the work.

Well you can try this little tool:

If you want to make a desktop icon for Shutdown, go on the desktop, create a shortcut and name it

shutdown -s -t 00

If you want to make a desktop icon for Restart, go on the desktop, create a shortcut and name it

shutdown -r -t 00

You should consider changing the Icon of the Shutdown and Restart Button
If you want to do so, right-click on the Icon, go to properties and under comment, you'll find "Change Icon..."

and there you go

Use shutdown.exe icon.
We can press alt + F4 to shut down.
And we can also set the settings of the power options in the control pannel of the power button to shutdown
