My husband bought me a ipod for mothers day and just recently i've gotten 240 songs and for some reason my bar on the bottom of itunes says its almost full. I think i have about 20 songs that are more than four minutes and not only that but i don't have any pictures on it either i took them off to see if that made a difference. I've searched on the net for some info and i've read my book that came with the ipod but haven't found anything out so if anyone can give me some advice on what i'm doing wrong or is my ipod screwed up!!!!

Some of the memory is used to run the ipod, and the rest is probably the file size of your songs being larger, on average, then what Apple uses for it's estimations.

Aplle says that ipod nano holds 500 songs
This is not the real capacity
The capacity is affected from the song duration the song's size..
The capacity is callculated using a model... Every song must be 4Mb in order to store 500songs...
Now to store more songs you must go to itunes options and lower the encoder quality setting it up on 92Kbps is a good choice

Maybe most of your songs are long. Or maybe you have too many playlists which makes the ipod full.Or you could contact the apple company and ask whats wrong. I have a 2GB and they said it COULD MAYBE hold up to 500 songs.

your songs could be in a large format. select all the songs on your iPod, right click and press "convert to AAC". this will make the song sizes smaller. xox

it could possibly be that you used a program diffrent from itunes. somehow itunes decompresses the music file so it can fit more space.
