If your car shakes at 65mph without stepping on the brake pedal, then it is not your brake rotors. It is the tires that are out of balance. You need to have then high speed balance. Any good tire shop can do this for you. If the car vibrates only when you apply the brakes, then it is a bad rotor or drum. To narrow it down from either the front or rear drums /rotors it is simple. Just drive the car at the speed where you feel the shudder, lightly apply the emergency brake. If it shudders, then it is the rear brake rotor/drum. If it does not shudder the nit is the front rotors out of round. My guess is your tires are out of balance. If the brake rotors were bad, then they would shudder at lower speeds as well.
get your tires rebalanced.
good luck with the tires.............

I am having an issue a few days ago my car started shaking while breaking and now its shaking while driving at speeds above 10mph but all of this shaking is coming from the front left. about 2 years ago the front left would shake while breaking so I am assuming I have a bad caliper or cheap rotors since I ve never had to replace rotors so often and its always the left front that s the problem I am replacing rotors tomorrow will see if this works (yes I always replace pads when replacing rotors even though there always factory thick) anyway does anyone have any ideas if this doesn t work and why this is happening so often other then my conclusion please enlighten me. Thanks

if you are only experiencing a vibration while driving 65 mph, it's probably not your rotors. you might want to get tires (all four) balanced and rotated (if not done within 5,000 miles or so). You might also need an allignment, but this is less likely.
if you feel a slight brake pedal pulsation while braking, your rotors are also warped. depending on how many miles are on that set of rotors depends on if you can have them turned or not...the rotors wear just like the pads do, but slower. if they are close to minimum thickness then you are probably better off to buy new rotors. dont skimp, get the best you can afford.

A rotor running "true" wont shake. A tire running "out of balance" shakes. You can get a tire/wheel assembly balanced to correct this. A warped rotor CANNOT be balanced, only lathed to run true. Only a trained brake lathe operator can let you know if the rotors can be lathed to correct the shake. If a rotor has to be lathed, "turned down", past a government regulated thickness, it is illegal for the shop to put the rotor back on your car. Also remember, if something in your rotating assembly is shaking, everything is wearing out at an accelerated rate. FIX IT NOW.

A rotor warped enough to make the wheel shake woud be very uncomon. Sounds as if you have a tire/wheel out of balance, possibly a bent wheel, or maybe a very bad shock allowing wheel hop.
You may have a bent rotor, which is rare too, but a good tire shop should be able to help regardless of the problem.

It could cause vibrations at higher speeds and it can be cut down but there are minimum thickness for all rotors. You would have to look in a service manual as all cars vary slightly.

If the engine is not functioning properly and it is shaking, that usually indicates an engine misfire. An engine misfire is usually caused by: faulty spark plugs and/or spark plug wires, faulty/clogged fuel injectors, or a mechanical problem in one or more cylinders such as a burned exhaust valve, blown head gasket, cracked piston, etc. Without seeing the car in person, it's hard to get any more specific than this.

If your vehicle shakes while driving and no braking you might need your wheels balanced. Check the wear pattern on your tires too.

Only when applying the brakes...If you have shaking at different speeds without applying the brakes...Its most likely something else....Wheel balancing, bad front end item, even belt separation in a tire...for example. Have it checked.

If they are warped that badly as you describe, I will venture to say that you need to have them replaced.
