Method for Windows XP_ XP x64_ Media center all versions
First open: Volume control(from your task bar) and check if:
Play control and Wave are mute..

If they are mute unmute them... You are done.
If the are not then

Go to control panel>Sound And Audio Devices
Click on the audio tab and check if in the Default device
is correct... (This is if you have more than one sound cards)

If the problem remains go to: Control panel>System>Hardware and click Device Manager...
Check if all the devices are working properly
If you see a yellow ! it means that your device have a problem(Update the driver to fix it)
If you see a red X it means tha the device is disabled(right click and select Enable)
If all the devices are workong properly and you still have no sound

Don't forget to check your wires..

If you rember the day that the problem started you can roll back your system to a previous date..

Make sure all wires are connected properly and try a restart. Worst case scenario, you'll have to back everything up onto CD-R and rebuild the hard drive. If that doesn't prevail try using some other speakers that definitely work. All else fails bring a professional in.

Good luck

You might want to check to make sure the cord to your speakers isn't pinched and that it is plugged in all the way.

had this happen on my laptop. recommend turning computer off to rest for a while. and to avoid it happening again, turn off pc on a daily basis. don't just let it sleep. i gave my pc a rest and volume came back.
