I have a crush on a girl I have never spoken to in college. I called her dorm number and told her straight up that I have a crush on her, is this a rational thing to be done? What could I have done other than call her?

That was wrong. You probably creeped her out. Even if getting a girl's number is as easy as looking in a directory, or just punching in the room number, never ever call her unless she gives you her number. Try talking to her face to face next time. If you have classes together you can try finding something to talk about when you're actually around her. But just calling a girl you don't know out of the blue usually comes off as creepy.

Hi - OK, take a deep breath and relax. Having your first conversation with a women and saying that you have a crush on her may be true but it is also stupid. She is going to go immediately on the defensive (and rightly so) and assume that you might be some kind of nut.
You gotta go slow and easy, man.
