It's currently available in audio on www.bbc.co.uk on the radio channel. It's got a few shocking words in the first chapter, then settles down. I get the impression that the author set out to shock as many people as he could in the first few pages, then settled down into telling a good story with sex scenes,
It worked. The book is still around.
