I have a friend who moved to Austria about 3 years back, and we've kept in contact through e-mail since calling is too expensive. Recently she told me she's started cutting herself. I told her she could talk to me if she ever needed to, but she says that cutting makes her feel more in control of her life, even though she's seriously hurting herself. She has a supportive boyfriend, and lots of other friends, but she KEEPS DOING IT!!! How can I help my friend stop cutting herself when she's thousands of miles away?

Pray for her. Ask God to help her through this problem.

Call her on the phone or write her a deep letter saying how not only is she hurting herself but all of her friends to. But don't put it to were she gets stressed out from hurting everyone because that might make it worse.

She needs to get professional help now! I've known a few people like that and a professional is the only way to go. It is also easier for someone else to hurt her and make it look like she's done it herself.

try informing her parents about it. if you cannot do that, then tell the boyfriend, he is the closest person whom you can rely on to help your friend. I think she has a deep problem that she cannot tell anyone and could no longer handle, thats the reason she is hurting herself. maybe she needs professional help.

hmm, this is a tough one, firstly i really feel for you and i am sorry you are going through this and by the sounds of things on your own. is there anyway she could come to you for a holiday or vice versa. and if things get really out of hand try and tell who ever she is living with.

It sounds to me that she needs other things to do to make herself feel better and may also need help to boost herself esteem.

She needs to go to a neurologist and tell them her problem. because this is a very mental problem when you want to hurt yourself. She needs help in the worst way and you can't help her yourself.

Tell your parents and let them tell her's, FAST. She might cut herself bad enough that no one can help her.
