We knows it's scare and it's harming the environment but why do people prefer oil to all the alternatives?
note: cost of alternatives decreases as demand increases!

No, the root of all evil is in limited supplies, and even though yes, oil is limited, so are a lot of other things.

Money is the root of all evil. But OIL makes people like Dick Cheney and his evil compatriots rich, so I guess you could say that OIL is, also, the root of all evil.
Satan, surely, has a special oil-soaked corner of Hell awaiting George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and all the other OIL-addicted fat cats who have forced this nation to become so dependent on OIL.
Other cheaper alternative energy sources could have easily been developed decades ago (cars that run on steam, or used cooking grease, or water, or electricity, for example). But the OIL fat cats suppressed all such development in the unholy name of huge OIL profits.
OIL has destroyed the world civilization, has caused countless wars and political conflicts, and will eventually be the complete ruination of our good Earth.
Coal, of course, is another resource which people have used to get rich, with no regard for the sanctity or preservation of the land. And "we the people", not knowing any better, demanded more OIL and more COAL so that we could drive around in fancy cars, heat our elegant homes, and waste our natural resources as if there was no tomorrow. Our great-great-great-grandchildren will live in a hellish world all because of our current greed and corruption. -RKO-

I'm from NE Pennsylvania. Have you seen what coal has done to the land there? What coal is now doing to WV? The larger proportion of global warming gases come from coal-fired power plants.
We need to as a civilization get beyond carbon burning before it smothers us all.
The last thing we need is to be fighting a war for Iraq's oil.
