if a friend ask you how she looks and she really looks bad, what should I say?

instead of going with a straight, "yes" or "no" say something like, well, where's that yellow shirt? i've always loved that on you. and then go with her to her closet--or if you're at school/away from home, tell her something like "you look great, but i think that lipstick doesn't match. here i have some you can try." then take her to the bathroom and maybe help her with a FEW things other than just the lipstick or shirt you had originally told her about.

Actually, what you say is this... They are not flattering!!! Tell her the color is wrong for her, whatever... If it looks bad, tell her the truth and don't pull the punches... She may not appreciate it then, but she'll appreciate it later...

For example, my then girlfriend wanted to take me shopping. I decided to be truthful and honest with whatever she asked me.

She came out and the cut of the skirt made her look like a tick that was about to pop... So I told her, "That skirt doesn't accentuate you at all.. It makes you look HUGE... And you're not that fat..."

I got the evil glare that said, "Thanks a lot, you're not exactly skinny!!!" She tries on another one... "Hey, now that's more like it.. See if they have that same one in a blue or a black... That shade of green just doesn't become you... She huffs and goes back to the dressing room... The clerk is giving me an evil glare but goes and finds the blue... She puts it on combined with the top she likes... BAM!!! She goes to her function and people are saying, "My don't you look good.." She went from ZERO compliments to Multiple comments...

NOW, she wants me to go with her all the time... It saves time, money, and the compliments make her day...

Hello Coco, Being a Real friend is telling her the Truth. Just tell her that you want to chat with her privatly off to the side. When there then tell her that you are not trying to hurt her feelings at all that you are just a true friend and that you do not think that the outfit (or what ever the matter may be) is right for her. If she really looks bad due to soemthing she can change tell her so. It may hurt but she nneds it in the long run. If she is just over weight tell her something like "you know with a small exercise program and good diet " you could be a star. Many girls over weight would look great with a few lbs lost.
If she is as much your friend as you think she will understand if you explain she needs ot make soem changes. Encourage her to help herself, but don't down her.
