My girlfriend and I are going as Day and Night. I will be going as Day, she as Night. I am struggling in coming up with a good idea for a costume. She will be wearing a black dress with diamonds sewn in (as the stars). Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

I vote for the yellow costume with the triangles of orange sewn on all outside seams as sunbeams. I think it sounds cool.

If her dress is more of an elegant one, then I think it would be pretty funny if you could get a yellow tux (because you'd both be kind of dressed up) wear a blue shirt with clouds on it under your suit coat (which can be easily made with fabric paint and a stencil), then with the Statue of Liberty crown painted gold (you could get a sheet of foam and cut out the crown) it would work and still be subtle like what your g/f's outfit sounds like. Or maybe make like a pimp chain necklace with the sun as the big bling. Also, you should have sunglasses and your g/f should have the blindfold thingies that people wear when they sleep. Is she going to have a moon on somewhere? Like earings or round purse?
One more thing, you're g/f could also have like a sword or shield and be a "knight" but I couldn't really think of something for day...sorry, but just another thought...
I think that is a cute outfit idea btw :) Good luck

You could wear blue pants, a white shirt (for sky and clouds) with a big sun on the shirt.
Or all blue with clouds airbrushed on.
Or if you're feeling bold, all yellow with orange fluttery triangles sewn on all the outside seams.

Try going with a yellow tux with white or golden accents, and possibly a white or yellow hat with a golden ribbon, or if you're going bold, a light blue tux (as the sky) with your skin painted yellow (the sun). You could sponge-paint white clouds on the blue tux.If you're not blonde already, dye your hair or buy a cheap wig for the 'daylight' theme. Shoes can be white, blue, or yellow. Try sticking on pins - like clouds or suns. You could go extreme and buy a big, clear or yellow top-hat, stick a light inside, and have it shine over your head. :) Or buy a cane that lights up.

Okay, here goes!
Go to WalMart or a Craft store and buy 3-4 sheets of poster board with the thin layer of foam in between it. It comes in colors, so get yellow. If they don't have it, get a cheap can of yellow spray paint. Cut 2 of the sheets into 2 circles as big as it allows. Attach two pieces of elastic to each shoulder from front to back and 2 pieces at your waist from front to back.Take one or more of the remaining sheets and cut out 8-10 inch sun rays, and hot glue them on the back (inner) side of each circle from one shoulder down and around to the other shoulder.
For the head---buy one sheet of regular poster board in yellow and fold it into a cone about the same size as the other sun rays and attach a piece of elastic to the bottom to go under your chin. Or you can get some yellow face paint and draw a ray from your forehead down to your chin to fill in for the missing sun ray.
Voila!! Day!!!
So, how's that? My daughter helped me "design" it.

When I think of day I think bright, yellow sunshine, orange,
blue sky, radiant, elegant.
Day could be bright white with gold ribbon sash, yellow sunshine earings,
yellow or gold shoes. For white a white fitted sheet works well as a skirt. You can fold it and tie it in a bow around your waste. Grab a thick yellow or gold ribbon and a white t-shirt. Wrap the ribbon around your waste or use it to make a sexy criss cross shirt .

no offense, but thats a tad bit hard to think about, which im guessing, obviously, is why you're asking on yahoo answers. and its also a tad bit lame, which is why its very hard (no offense buddy, its just a joke)
so, how about you try like a hercules type thing, only without the sheild/sword/hat/ etc. all goulden tones. make sure you look kindof stocky. maybe, like in all the beautfy shops today, have a goulden sun painted on the chest of the outfit. ya know. its kinof goulden-yellow with undertones of orange and red. very mistique. just make sure you keep it with earthy coulours and you'll be alright
