If it is classed as a "spent" conviction you may be able to, but everybody working with kids has to have a CRB check 1st and it will be up to the people who will be employing you to decide. Good luck.

if you apply for the job and are successful in getting the position you will then have to undergo an 'enhanced disclosure' from the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB). any cautions and convictions will be detailed (along with any other relevant info ie if you have been arrested but not prosecuted or charged for an offence).
when your CRB check comes back you will be offered a meeting with HR and management staff to discuss the content of your disclose. the school (or local authority) may already have in place a policy to now allow anyone with certain 'information' in their records to be employed - but they will take into account all the circumstances around the offence, and period of time since it happened etc...
you can contact the CRB yourself to discuss the contents of your disclosure - and sometimes the details may not be shown, but for a classroom assistant it defiantly would.
i would not let this stop you from applying - you'll never know till you do.
if you want more info on CRB checks - here is the website....
hope this helps x

It depends on the thoroughness of the school following the completion of your Police Disclosure form. If it is as well researched as that of Huntley in Soham, you should have no trouble at all in being let loose amongst children. No one can now work with children without completion of the PDF. The Police check their records for convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings and send a copy of their findings to the school, with a copy to yourself. I believe most schools prefer to avoid persons with any police convictions, no matter what the crime. You could go and talk to the Head Teacher and get his views on the matter before submitting yourself to re-investigation by the police. Bon Chance my friend.

Be as honest as possible on your application form. Try looking at a local council website (north Lincolnshire is the one I use) as they list the requirements for working with children - your conviction is not child related so you should eventually be ok - although I'm not sure how long it takes for a conviction to become spent. You will always be subject to full disclosure when working with children so its always best to be upfront. Can you get a written reference from anyone you have worked with or if you have looked after their children?

Providing you have not committed any crimes against children or sex offences, and the fact you have only had a caution there should not be a problem.
The disclosure act only applies to serious offences.
Good luck.

As long as you can pass a police check. Even burglary is frowned upon as you could be open to taking stuff from the school. So I suppose it depends how long ago.

It depends on where you are now. It's ok in Singapore where ex convicts are given a chance if they have a good prison record. It's good if you can have another source of income.
Have you heard of Google Adsense program? You can make some legitimate money if you have a blog at Blogger.com of a free website like Google pages which will allow you to publish Google Adsense. http://tashi.web.design.googlepages.com/website-sponsor
I always tell people this, 'You can make money if you can create website or blogs'. by providing free and good information.
I'm 41 now, work from home in shorts and T-shirts and sometimes topless. I set my target as low as to make 1 dollar/page/day. I strive to create a new page for my websites everyday but I have all the freedom I need and making money 24/7 on the internet with Google Adsense and some affiliate programs. The only thing that tie me down is 'how much income I want or need'. Because the more websites and traffic I have will determine how much income I can much.
Anyone who can create websites or blogs to provide lots of good information can make money from Google Adsense. Blogger.com and Google pages lets you create blogs for free and allows you to make money too.
You can make money by joining me or Google as a publisher and publishing Google Adsense on your websites. If someone clicks on those ads, you will earn money.
I'll be working on this website http://tashi.web.design.googlepages.com soon after I'm done with my client's website.

You are a douce, that is why all people should think about the consequences to their actions. At a public school you will not be able to get a job, the same with any other public servent job. Unfortunately that does not stop a private institution that does not receive public funding from hiring a theiving scum bag.
