Teenagers can become successful. Christopher Paolini (author of Eragon and Eldest) graduated at fifteen, and began writing his trilogy. He got it published, and it became very popular. It is a good story, and I am happy it will soon become a movie.

I think most anyone can become an author so long as their written voice is truthful and relatable. One such author is S.E. Hines who wrote the Outsiders when she was a teen. One reason I think there are so few teen authors is because teens are young and although I am sure they have experienced book worthy events they have not been able to put them into perspective in terms of what significance they have to life because they haven't yet lived long enough to conceptualize it. Notice that many young authors have experienced tremendous hardships such as drug addiction and abuse. I think that may be because their experience is so extreme that they have probed the depth of themselves. Not that this is neccessary , but most average teenagers can't see past their own experience to apply the lessons they've learned because they are too young and most are naiive about the world. Work on developing your own personal style and submit your work to as many young author publishers as possible (at your school or national magazines)

Sure, they can be. And sure the chances are slim- but the same is true for just about everyone else.
First, you'll need to impress an agent who can then go pound on a few publishers for you. Write your story, then send oh- a copy of the first three chapters, along with a cover letter and synopsis. Keep the original: You may need it.
Don't be discouraged if you start out getting rejection slips:A number of the most famous authors there are had their tables covered with them before they got a break.
Good luck! And go for it!

There are certain sports in which it's possible to be very successful, very young, particularly for girls - for example, gymnastics and tennis. Also, some teenagers have been successful entrepeneurs, starting businesses (often online) with a small loan from their parents and doing surprisingly well. Some kids achieve astonishing academic success and make the headlines by getting university scholarships at 12 or whatever.

The youngest author of a seriously published book in America was 14. He published a stand alone novel in the Thieves World realm for fantasy readers and is well on his way to writing stardom. If you are of the same bent, good luck I hope you make it.

Teenagers may have the vision but 99.99999999999% of them will lack the perspective necessary to make a really interesting book. This is not discriminatory. It's just that the act of passing a message will not be taken seriously until the teenager in question reads a great many books, digest them and hangs them infront of his/her own exeriences and until his/her prose has matured... I think.

Life, experience & the ability to convey the experience has absolutely no bearing to age. The most compelling story may have been experienced by a grey-beard or a smooth-face, the difference is the ability to convey the story to a rapt audience & the ability to capture the audience is not bounded by chronology.

Of course they can! The girl who wrote Frankenstein was only 18 at the time, and now that book has been made into a bunch of movies and even some cartoons!

Yes. It's been done before. Being young is actually a benefit because of the sensationalism factor.
What you need to worry about is making sure you get across that you can finish your work. If you write and submit 3 chapters, they may worry you can't finish it, so they may want a completed novel.
