There is an honor to poverty, because it takes more character to be poor than to be rich. What you have is of your own making, your word is your integrity!

absolutely not.
there is no simple honor in poverty.

are you saying that we should show the poor respect (or that the poor should feel self-respect) simply BECAUSE they don't have many things?
or, are you saying that we should respect poor people because they DEAL with their poverty so well?
how arrogant and condescending THAT would be.

if YOU give something away, or decide not to buy something (thereby reducing the amount of "things" you own),
do you think you should garner more respect from others (and would it make you feel more self-respect)?
would that reduction in your possessions mean you have more honor?

is that the feeling poverty should inspire in others, admiration for those who can live in such circumstances?
do you think that the poor want others to ADMIRE them because they don't have much?

perhaps you mean to ask:
"is there honor in a simple life?"
answer: yes

No - it just means you don't have any money. A drug addict may live in poverty because every cent goes into their veins, a lazy worthless loser may live in poverty because he won't work, stupid people often live in poverty because they don't know how to manage their money or get duped out of it - none of these seems particularly honorabe. Neither is accepting welfare - highly dishonorable in fact. What's honorable is becoming educated, working hard, and supporting oneself and one's family. To say otherwise would be a cop out.

Poverty is a curse - i have been poor and there is nothing really good about it. The only thing good - it helps you appreciate what you have when you are able to get ahead and pay all your bills.

I see where there is honor. To live with the purest of needs is cleansing in a way. Good question.

If coupled with hard work, yes. Whether that hard work is raising kids, volunteering for a good cause, or working like a dog to make ends meet, is immaterial, of course.
