Weight - could be genetics, so in this case its neither person or government.
The government doesnt control what you eat but requires the industry to tell you what you are eating. If you are eating a big mac everyday, there are nutritional values online for you to look at so it is your personal choice to eat it.
Its funny you call it victim because if the victim were to blame, then she/he is as guilty as the industry.
Bottomline is: there are options when you go out and buy food. It is nobodies fault but yours if you choose to go to McD instead of buying healthy food. It is only the industries fault if they didnt tell you all the nutritional facts about their food.

I'm not sure thats an accurate description of the issue. One perspective is that the government has a responsibility to regulate industry, and that people need to know when they are eating something that can hurt them. The opposing argument is that the free-market system dictates that McDonalds can sell you whatever they want, with whatever ingredients they want in it, and if you eat it its your problem.
I think that nutritional information should be provided to consumers, and that should be the extent of the government's involvement. As far as lawsuits go, those are just ridiculous. Theres no legitimate legal argument for holding fast food companies responsible for our country being so fat.

The simple answer is yes, you are responsible for your own weight. While genetics plays a part, the individual is ultimately responsible. Jessica Alba is from a family that's somewhat overweight but she's not because she works her butt off to stay thin. I live in San Diego and, as you can imagine, there are fast food paces galore. But it's my choice not to eat at them because I know that they are bad for me. I think that blaming the fast food industries is ridiculous, they're just trying to make money, just like the people who sued them.

Since when does the industry cook at your house?
You are responsible for what you eat. You buy it. You cook it. You eat it. Where does the government fit into all of this? We do not want the government involved in our daily doings lest they find some way of taxing excrement too.

yes you are - no one forces you too eat unhealthy foods or too much. And if your weight problem is related to health issues (that is your not overweight because of over-indulging but because of an actual illness or treatment to an illness), It STILL is no one else's responsibility but your own and is a subject for you and you doctor. Not you, your doctor, the whole USofA , AND the united states government!

No matter who tells you what to eat, the government, your preacher, your school teacher, parents, relatives, friends, or anybody else, you're the one who shovels it in.
You don't get fat from what you eat. You do get fat from how much you eat. Obesity has no victim, it's completely voluntary. The obese person shoves it in himself.
The big blob who is trying to blame someone else is trying to get himself off the hook.

Yes, you are very responsible for your own weight, and it's not the industry's fault either. You always, always have CHOICES. You can choose to eat this food or not and you can choose to exercise or not. It's your own responsibility to choose right and to not become over weight.

I am responsible for what I eat, and ultimately my weight.
I make the choice to exercise or not.
I make the choice of buying fresh vegetables and fruit over potato chips.
I make the choice of not going to Jack in the Box.

No, I thought that the executives and stockholders from McDonald's were responsible for my weight. The tobacco companies made me smoke for years.

If you choose to be a victim, then you can sit there in your grease and tell everyone, "It ain't my fault. They made me eat the Twinkies."
Or, if you choose to be responsible for your own life, you can eat sensibly and exercise.
Your call.
