Dont get me wrong,
Yes the country is poor, but I’m beginning to question how much of a $h!t hole this place really is if people and their mom wants to concentrate on Africa and ignore the rest of the world. I cannot believe Africa is the ONLY poor country and everyone else is okay. So is it the poorest of poor?
I want to see someone go into Asia, South American, Or Europe and show all the poor, naked, "wild", uneducated , beatnick people living in bushes and/or squalor and get aid for them. I KNOW they exist....
Yes I support Africa and want to help them. The AIDS crisis is huge, but I dont think we really UNDERSTAND it or the poverty, we just know its "really ,really bad,and they NEED our help". I never wanna play “blame the victim”, and say a bunch of sick people should just shut-up, work harder and get out of it. Because THAT is just atrocious ignorance and insensitivity.
Is this just another way we exploit Africans or What? Through the media?

I think the underlying reason for Africa's social problems are colonization - not their economic problems. Colonization had a devastating effect on tribes. On the other hand, Ethiopia wasn't colonized and is also in a mess. I also see that Nigerian leaders have stolen $500 billion!! in the last 40 years - only $5 billion was recovered. (A big percentage of the money was aid from the West) That is 6 times more money than Europe needed to rebuild the continent after the 2nd World War.
Here in South Africa, things are relatively stable and we, as a diverse country, live in relative harmony. South Africa is the hope for Africa. If we also fail, then there would be no successful African country left except for Botswana and Namibia maybe.
Just some quick facts on SA's position in Africa:
- South Africa, with 4.8% of Africa’s population accounts for almost 45% of the GDP of the entire African continent, with an economy three times the size of the second biggest, Egypt
- In 2003 South Africa boasted more than 50% of the cars, phones, automatic bank tellers and industrial facilities on the continent
- South Africa is the world’s biggest producer of gold, platinum, chromium, vanadium, manganese and alumino-silicates.
- South Africa's per capita GDP, corrected for purchasing power parity, positions the country as one of the 50 wealthiest in the world
- Of the 10 LSM levels ( LSM1=poorest; LSM10 wealthiest ), the average SA family located in LSM6
Yes, we also have problems such as poverty and Aids, but relative to Africa, we're nr 1! :)

The continent of Africa is pretty screwed up, no doubt.
But I would really like to see the focus shifted to the US. Until our children are better educated (have you seen some of the posts here? Unreal!), our streets are safe, our elected officials take us seriously and we have affordable housing, I say everyone else has to wait in line.
We can't even rebuild one of our greatest cultural treasures (New Orleans) or prove that we are adequately prepared to respond to natural disasters (Katrina, Rita). We adopt children from all over the world, but don't give the same attention to minority, special needs or older children that need our love. Our elected officials are more concerned about staying in office and playing the blame game than actually getting s*** done.
Don't forget that our media here exploits us too.
Bangladesh is probably the poorest country on the planet, and seems to be home to every natural disaster known to man except wild / brush fires.
Um, should I tell you what I really think?

1st Africa is NOT a country it's a conteniet which has many countrys & regions inside.
2nd In some ways I do agree with you, it is exploition of africans, you never get to see the africans in the city (except on Top Model when they went to South Africa).
But I think we should help any1 that needs help if we can.

No, sorry. If African black males engage in sex with multi partners and infect their communities, that is their problem. If Africans elect extremely corrupt blacks merely because they are black to the exclusivity of everything else about them, that is their problem.
If they kick out the white farmers as they did in Zimbabwe, then wind up starving a few years later because they were incapable of learning how to farm properly, THAT IS THEIR PROBLEM.
Africans need to learn that they must sleep in the bed they've made for themselves. We owe them nothing.

2. No, not now... we are too busy "liberating" remember?
3. There is nothing that the our the Bush administration would get out of heling poor African countries so its not likley to happen until he's out of office.
